Why all the anger?

I had two VZW employees tell me the 24th, so I put my Incredible up on eBay. Now as of the 25th, I will be without a phone.

According to some of the logic of this thread, when I asked those CORPORATE STORE PERSONNEL the release date, I should have followed up by asking for an affidavit? DEMANDING an email or a press release? Please enlighten me

They know as much as you or me. They won't know the release date of the phone until its in their stock room.

If you're out a phone on the 25th without a replacement, then its on you and no one else. Verizon has not given any indications to ANYONE when the phone is going to be released, and directly from corporate is the ONLY source you should listen to about the release. I don't blame you for listening to the store reps because in some cases its okay to assume that they know what they're talking about. Having worked in retail, however, I can tell you that unless corporate makes an announcement, you shouldn't believe a word they say.

I'm not angry but I am getting impatient. No, it's not life and death or really that important in the scheme of things.

But realistically, in my world, I use my phone in place of a PC and I've been waiting patiently for BlackBerry to improve their web browsing. It hasn't and so I decided to switch platforms reluctantly.

Now I'm set with my decision but it's still not happening. One of the main reasons I decided on the TB WAS because of release date.
I'm actually getting more impatient because I need to go out of state on a family emergency trip and trying to buy plane tickets, get bus fares, cab fares, etc on my BlackBerry is frustrating.

So I'd really like the TB asap to help with these plans. Now my concern is that I'll not have enough time to get familiar with the phone before I leave. That concerns me as I don't want to be stranded in the city (small town girl) with a phone that's drained because I don't know how to work it yet.

The phone is just a tool, yes. It's not my health or anything. But, honestly, it does take some stress away in that I can stay in touch, make travel plans, search bus routes etc.

So, that's my frustration. Probably I will be sticking with my BlackBerry a little longer if the TB isn't out the 24th.

Wow someone being realistic! Thanks :)

Right now these boards are nuts.

The only reason that I am slightly upset is because I have been eligible for an upgrade since november and every additional day I wait now is an additional day I have to wait for my next upgrade in 10 or 20 months, lol.

yes, I know I have a problem.:-[

I an not going crazy over it like some people, but I also don't think an officially announced release date is too much to ask for.

My problem is that I have had android up until someone stole my Droid 2 in December so I am back on a blackberry from android and have had an upgrade since November. I am very impatient now because I hate blackberry and know what I have been missing for a few months so I am very anxious t just get any android phone and the TB is perfect. I however am getting the mode that since I have waited so long that if this is delayed passed the 24th I am going to wait for the Bionic because Verizon just upgraded me to a bold for free so I can wait if I have too for the bionic. I think HTC is the loser here not Verizon.

Okay more and more people are starting to get ridiculous regarding this whole release date situation. Or maybe it's just that the people who are impatient are getting louder (or in a forum case simply expressing their frustration more succinctly).

My question is why? A lot of the people that are expressing their anger and frustrations are the people who have great phones and should be able to wait without any issues. Of all people it should be people like me who become impatient. I mean I have a first gen Storm.

In fairness, I'm becoming more vocal about checking other options, and I don't even own a phone right now. I'm borrowing my friend's fascinate that she wants back last weekend v.v

Borrowing a phone? Damn dude. Times are tight!

Well I wanted to have the $80 I sold my Alias 2 for at the time of sale, and she happened to like her Blackberry over the Fascinate for some reason, so she's letting me borrow it until the weekend of the (lol) 11th, when I get my Thunderbolt. Why would I pay for a phone under these circumstances, lol.

Hence why she wants it back last weekend >.<

Again, I don't think I should have to get a sworn statement. I walked into the store and there were TWO greeters. They asked how they could help me. I said "Is the Thunderbolt still a secret or..." I unison, before I could finish my sentence, they said "the 24th" They were obviously both told the same thing, and quite confident in it. If the 25th gets here and I don't have a phone, I'll use a flip for a few days. Much longer than that and I take my business elsewhere.

By your logic, a tweet from @VerizonWireless isn't official. A date on a commercial or the iPhone, Cell Phones, Smartphones, Refurb/CPO Phones with the Best Cell Phone Service - Verizon Wireless page isn't official. NOOOoo... I should wait until I have the presser from Basking Ridge NJ in my hand. Notarized. On official letterhead. Addressed to me.

Correct! And most consumers get their release information for other electronics from a retailer. So when BB has information, people expect it to be accurate.

Sorry...but you're the one without a cell phone on the 25th because two store employees told you the 24th.

As said, that's on you.

You don't need a sworn/notarized/blood statement, but waiting for an official announcement from VZW on their website would suffice.

If VZW said when it was released with an actual date, I would stand beside you 100%.

From all the misinformation from Best Buy, Verizon company owned stores, friends former roommates best friends twice removed uncles, etc....it should be clear by now.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
Did the pre-order receipts have the wording on them "Subject to change" at all?

First, I'm not without a phone. Second, you're really suggesting that I shouldn't be able to trust an employee of the company?!?! Sorry, I don't go through life wearing that kind of tinfoil hat. Third, I've got nothing to lose. Verizon stands to lose a customer. So keep telling me how much it's "on me" I'll be the one with a new phone at he beginning of March.

Nope. Trust the employee. It's worked well for you so far.
If Verizon loses you as a customer because they didn't release a phone...when....they didn't say they were going to release a phone...see ya.

You don't have to wait till the beginning of March. Go back to those trusted VZW employees and get your iPhone today. They have plenty...trust me.

If Verizon stands to lose a customer because they couldn't wait for a phone that they never announced a release date for...so be it.

i think you are looking at this the wrong way, verizon DID announce a date, they announced it through best buy.

they did it like cowards and made best buy look bad in the process. If i was the best buy CEO my foot would be a few feet up McAdam's ass right now.

best buy didn't make up the feb. 14th date, and it had to of been a solid date given to them from a source high up in verizon's food chain otherwise they would of never took pre-order money from customers.

bottom line is, they did announce a date, they did go back on their word and its more than a good enough reason for people to be pissed.

Just to switch it up for a second... the "rumored" release date was 2/14. Suspiciously, the dummy units have a date of 2/14. Coincidence? I think not.

Sprint announced the Shift for 1/9. I bought it on 1/7. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? The be-all end-all Holy Grail of an OFFICIAL release date was WRONG? Sorry I just turned your world upside down.

I'll make you a deal... you continue to allow me to gripe, which is my right, and I'll continue to let you be a sychophantic Verizon apologist, which is your right. Deal?

Uhh the CEO of Verizon defiantly announced it would be out mid February at CES. I don't know what you're talking about that they "never announced a release" for the Thunderbolt. FEBRERO!

blah blah blah. positive thinking guys. lets stay on the same team. TEAM THUNDERBOLT!

haha i no its hard to stay positive but we now have less than a week from the expected release.
