why am i stuck on the 4.4.2 version for galaxy s4

iv'e checked my software updates and it says it's up to date but i'm still stuck on the 4.4.2 version while the 5.0.1 version is already out.

are you using the phone with service on its original carrier?

And has your carrier issued 5.0.1 for that phone?

Each new version of Android has to be rewritten for the phone model, then the carrier does their rewrite for each one they sell, then they release it. If the manufacturer didn't write one for your model phone, or your carrier didn't, you won't get one.

What carrier is your phone for? Some carriers like Cricket have not updated the Galaxy S4 to 5.0.1 yet.
