Why am I unable to down load pictures from my Samsung Galaxy 4 onto my iMac?

unable to down load pictures from my samsung galaxy 4 onto my iMac

Mac has recently switched from iPhoto to photo which is now unable to read my photos from my phone...saying that they are unrecognizable but with iPhoto i had no problems....is there a way to make the computer and my phone "know" each other

I am having same problem with iphoto not recognizing my photos now. I want them in iphoto.
