LG G3 LGLS990 unable to root

I recently purchased the LG G3 model LGLS990 and I've been unsatisfied with the volume level of the ringtones and the alerts because I keep missing calls in rooms with some background noise (I have all set to max volume). I was told I had to root the phone using Stump Root. The website is LG Cell Phones Blog (which claims works with every model # from every carrier-mine is Sprint but won't work with mine) to adjust the default volumes. Also had to download ES File explorer and a text editor. The text editor can edit the file but not save it because it's read only because the phone couldn't be rooted. The file # to be edited is mixer_paths.xml. Any ideas? I'd appreciate any help.

Thank you,
Chris

Re: LG G3 LGLS990 unable to root

Why root the phone - which voids the warranty, can brick the phone, etc., etc., when all you have to do is increase the volume of the sounds in the files?

Install Audacity on your PC. Click the "lame" button to install the lame codec.

Now, copy your ringtones, notification tones, etc., to your PC. Load them, one at a time, into Audacity, and increase the volume as much as you want. (Note that once you pass a certain point - the maximum the phone's speakers can handle - all you'll be increasing is distortion. Which isn't a bad thing if all you want the tones to do is get your attention.) Oh - if they're mp3 files, you don't open and save them, you import and export them. Same File menu.

If you're still running 4.4.2, with a kernel date earlier than June 2014, Towel Root should be able to root the phone. But I'd try louder copies of the tones (keep copies of the original, so you can always "rewind" if you do something wrong) first. (I have an "old mechanical phone ringer" ringtone - probably a Bell F or G ringer - that's so loud it can be heard about halfway across a crowded Walmart Supercenter. My hearing is pretty bad. When it gets so bad that I'm legally deaf, that's probably the only ringtone I'll still be able to hear.

Re: LG G3 LGLS990 unable to root

Thanks for the info, I'd prefer to go that route than rooting the phone. I already downloaded Audacity and edited the ringtones I wanted but there was a considerable amount of distortion if I put to the level that I really wanted (this was on my PC not the phone). It's still louder than it was & probably enough but a little louder would be nice but not at the cost of that distortion. There are a lot of options in the program that I haven't experimented with yet, so I may be able to tweak it enough to minimize that. Thank again for the help.

Re: LG G3 LGLS990 unable to root

Most of the distortion you'll hear in the phone will be due to the capability of the phone to reproduce sound at that level. (Technically, you're pushing the audio amplifier until it flat-tops. And the speaker will start distorting even a clan sound if the level is too high.) But experiment and find something you can live with.

Glad to have been of some help.
