Why are downloads "paused" when I exit the apps?

[Android Central Question]

Transitioned from LG G4 to Galaxy S7 Edge around a month and a half ago and although I loved almost everything on the new phone there is one thing that's REALLY nerveraking and its how instanely restrictive the phone is in terms of background proccesses. On the G4 I used to be able to click on a link and it'll start (and keep doing so after exiting the app) downloading normally but as soon as I exit the app on the S7E the downloading proccess freezes and the downloading doesn't continue unless I re-open the app (and most of the time even that does not work, it just stays frozen) and It's driving me INSANE, please tell

I've never had that problem. From where are you downloading?

Could you have data saving mode on (circle with a plus inside it in the status bar) ? It stops background data use.

You'll find the issue will be in your settings. You can restrict background processing and data saver can limit what the device does. Have a snoop around in your setting...connectivity... Data usage... Data saver...
