Why are most launchers not opening and, also, most widgets missing from the drawer?

I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. I've never experienced this with any previous Android device. I've tried settings ( default apps to Nova L for example). I love the phone but strange problems when I can't use fav launcher and no widgets ( I'm left with like 3% of my widgets).
