Why are my letters and numbers turning into white blocks on my S5?

S5: Letters and numbers turning into white blocks

After a while on my phone, my home screen numbers start to turn into white blocks. Then it starts to spread to the actual words on my phone (i.e. the dates). It is fixed by restarting the phone, but is there any way to fix this properly? Is there something wrong with my phone?

check your recently installed apps and try to uninstall these apps. Usually these types of problems are caused by an app that is not fully compatible with your device. The other option is to reset your phone.

Welcome to the club. I have the same issue, which started shortly after the update to Android 5.0. It always starts with the numbers & letters on the pin lock screen and expands to the status bar and popups (airplane mode, etc). A restart will usually buy me a few weeks before it starts again. I have wiped the cache partition which was no help. Not sure about the incompatible app theory. In my case, the problems were more in line with the 5.0 update, no new apps were installed.
