Android Central Question

Okay this started about Oct. 4 maybe when I updated my LG G6.
1) I lock my LG G6 (or it locks due to inactivity).
2) I unlock with fingerprint and try to touch an icon or slide screen, etc and the screen has some sort of security lock until I hit ANY soft key on the nav bar at the bottom. The screen is 'dead'.
3) As I try to tap the icon or screen, the nav bar buttons are grey. When I touch the nav bar buttons, they then turn white and now everything is selectable, screen is responsive.

I think this is related to Android security update to help with inadvertent key tapping or butt dials. Drives me crazy as the nav buttons actually take me away from an article or email that was open when the screen was locked. Help!!!

 Hmm, I would go into safe mode and see if it still happens -
I also got the update but my G6 seems faster and everything works fine.
(and I just posted that after update, I am now VoLTE compliant)

I will now be aware of your situation and see if it happens to me.

So I rebooted in Safe Mode...and the funky icon/screen lockout mode was not there. So its clear - EVERY time the phone is locked and after the next fingerprint unlock, a button on the Navigation Bar MUST be pressed in order for the main screen to respond to any tap or touch. So is it something with the security update??? I have searched for new screen and lock settings and nothing. I didn't download any new apps and also checked ATT Drive Mode and no setting there. uGH. So annoying and hitting any nav key moves me away from my intended app!

Welcome to the forums. That's so weird. If the issue doesn't persist in safe mode that means the culprit is an app that didn't came preinstalled. You could try a couple of things.

- After unlock and while the screen is unresponsive try opening the recent apps and see which app is the last one in there. If the last card doesn't belong to the app that you used before the phone was locked then long press the small icon top left on the card and tap 'i' (info). Repeat the same process after you managed to unlock your home screen.

- Maybe the issue is caused by a weird overlay, see which apps have the 'display over other apps' permission enabled. Not sure how to do this on the G6, in most phones running Oreo you can do it in settings - apps & notifications - scroll down and open 'advanced' - scroll down and tap 'special app access' - select 'display over other apps' and see what's included in that list.

Javier - I tried those two steps and nothing changed. Thanks for input. I booted again in Safe Mode, wrote a list of all apps that were greyed out as the phone works properly in this mode. The grey apps are not active. So I started deleting. I had 97 apps and started down a list. I deleted 37 apps and rebooted to normal mode. The lock touch screen fuction still active. The issue is that I never added any apps. This started with the Android update that AT&T pushed. It's 8.0.0 but I think this is maybe a security update. I am calling it a "butt dial setting' as it simply doesn't allow for any screen tap or response until I touch any navigation bar button. Driving me completely crazy. If I am typing an email and my screen locks, I hit home or back to start typing again it saves it as draft. Same with FB, I lose my place in my feed simply trying to use the phone after unlock. It doesn't seem to be a loaded app. I wish someone could help me as this is my business phone.

I'm going to move your thread to the LG G6 forum where it will be easier getting help from other owners. As you did, maybe this a bug after the recent update or maybe a new "security feature".

I'll search about it a bit later and let you know if I find anything.
