Why are my photos and albums missing from the Gallery app?

The photos I recently took with my Samsung S20 are not in my Gallery app along with over 95% of my pictures in albums. I have not changed any settings and have performed all basic troubleshooting steps.

When you open the My Files app, where do see the photos? They should be in the DCIM folder. If you find them there what app opens them?

Are the photos being saved to Internal Storage or the SD card?
