Receiving Texts WAAAY Late When Turning On Phone?

Hello. I go to work everyday at 3:30AM and get home around 8:30-9:00AM.
Every morning before I leave, I text my girlfriend who stays with me a morning text for her to wake up to. She has class at 8:10AM everyday (besides weekends)...

When she replies, she sends it anywhere from 6:15AM-7:40AM...I turn my phone on right after work and it takes roughly 24mins to get home...Well, I don't even receive her reply until about 10 minutes after I've been home. Why? I have a good 2-4 bars of signal the whole way.
Example: This morning, she sent the text at 6:15AM and I just got it at 8:16AM. That's 2 hours of the text just waiting there to be received, then like 30mins to actually get onto my phone. Why?...

Thanks!

Re: Receiving Texts WAAAY Late When Turning On Phone?

According to Quora member Kane Russell's answer to "Why are sms text messages so slow to send?", text messages are sent using left-over bandwidth. That would imply it either being super busy at her carrier and/or the network the messages go through, or something there not being configured properly, as text messages are tiny compared to voice messages.
