why are screen protectors still thing.

Two questions:

1) WTF kind of keys or jeans do you guys have? Metals that can scratch glass? What?

2) If you have AT&T, always have a case on, and don't care too much about reselling, why not just get the Active version? It's thinner and lighter than a phone with decently protective case on, and it can actually last a whole day instead of needing a boost when you get home.

The active versions are usually ugly. Why does it matter so much as to why some people choose to buy screen protectors and cases? It's their phone and their money. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't protect their phone, but if they choose not to its their choice.

I'd like to see those people report back to this thread in 6 months about how scratch resistant gorilla Glass is. I have yet to see any documentation on that, and I know too many people who get theirs scratched within two weeks of buying the phone. That being said, my last 2 phones have survived a no scratched screen Note 4 and s7edge, with no screen protector. However, I'm OCD about where my phone is placed ,what's around it,etc. Left front pocket in all pants is reserved for my phone, nothing else. Maybe the microfiber cloth I sometimes carry. But I think the name gorilla Glass gives false security to most people.

Because sand particles still exist, are found virtually everywhere, including your pocket, and are stronger than any glass ever will be? You were only lucky so far. Nothing to do with being careless. Also, if you use the phone naked I would bet that I can find hairline marks on your glass after a years worth of use. Maybe you can't see them or just don't care.

I personally don't care about fine scratches they don't show up when display is on and don't interfere with the touch capabilities also most don't quite stick to the s8 because of those edges. But like you said it's a personal thing i've had my note 4 before this and barely had scratches on it after what 2+ years so i'm not really worried about it and i never EVER drop a phone (unless it's an iphone oddly enough that's the only one i ever managed to drop lmao)

Well I accidentally dropped my BlackBerry Leap once from 8feet high and it landed screen down on the pavement, and I thought for sure it's broken, I picked it up and found it had a light scratch on it I had to tilt the phone to find it, and on the top of the screen on the side it was chipped a bit, so for that 2$ protector it was worth it. Never go without one except of course if it's been 2 months and they still haven't arrived!!

Wait...the S8 Active is ugly, yet people keep yelling about form over function?

What's a good film protector? I'm returning the Supershieldz - incompatible with the Spigen case I have.

Worst-case, I'll go without screen protection (I didn't have a problem doing so with the S7edge). I never put it in the same pocket with keys or change, & I face the screen towards my body.

Spigen Neo Flex screen protectors are designed to work with Spigen cases. $8 for two at Amazon.com.
