Why Are You Not Upgrading To Or Buying The S20?

I've gone back and forth almost pulling the trigger on the S20 Ultra coming from my Note 9. There seems to be some issues which I'm not convinced about.

The battery life is questionable.

A lot of people may not be aware that Samsung has gone a step backwards to phase detect auto focus instead of the superior dual pixel auto focus. And there are significant issues currently around auto focus hunting.

Not implementing the latest far improved Qualcomm fingerprint scanner.

I've decided that whilst I love the new camera with that incredible zoom and much larger sensor, that is the only real feature to me significantly over my current Note 9. If at least battery life wasn't in question I would consider it.

I'll probably hang out to the S21. By then, hopefully Samsung will go back to dual pixel auto focus, implement the 2nd generation Qualcomm fingerprint scanner, improve battery life and increase the fast charging output. I imagine the much flaunted zoom capabilities will also improve, so something for me to look forward to.

I've read a couple of interesting rumours. One is that there is a new power efficient OLED display that may debut in the Note 20 that emits much less blue light. And that Samsung may soon debut a new 60W gallium nitride fast charger. And there are still rumours of a debut graphene battery in 2021. There are already for sale graphene power bank external batteries so surely this can't be far off.

Where are you seeing questionable battery life? I've watched/read all the reviews and at least on 60hz the battery life is awesome.

There are a lot of mixed reviews regarding battery life. Even at 60 Hz refresh rate, the combination of a 6.9 inch screen and a 5G modern seems to take it's toll. I would be getting none of the benefits of 5G whilst getting all the negatives of it.

If you have a Note 9 why don't you flog that, and save a few quid as well and get a Note 10 plus instead of the Ultra?

Nah. When I buy a phone, I like to get the very latest. I had a Galaxy S5 for 4 years then got the Note 9 on pre order.
And really, whilst the Note 10+ has better battery life and quicker charging, that's about all I was really gaining that really interested me over my Note 9.

The stellar camera upgrade is a worthy improvement for upgrading. I think by the time the S21 comes, there'll be further improvements in imaging plus battery life, charging speed and the improved fingerprint scanner making an overall brilliant phone worthy for me to upgrade. I won't be keeping this Note 9 as long as I kept my S5. And who knows, maybe Samsung will surprise me on the Note 20.

You're right. The S20 line looks cool but I won't get a new phone purely due to the camera being the singular improvement. Within a year, I'm sure battery, camera, biometrics, etc will all be worthwhile reasons to upgrade. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my S10. :)

I've had my s9+ since launch and it is still working perfectly fine. Plus I can't find a good reason to upgrade to an s20. Yes it is more powerful, has more ram, better scren maybe. But am I going to use it to it's full potential? Never. Not even the s9+ I currently own.
So what's the point then? I don't know. Oh and I need the headphones jack. And it is too damn expensive for a phone. For this kind of money it should be made of gold.

I wanted the regular size after sampling the S10+ last cycle. I usually use S series for about 6 months and then jump on the Pixel bandwagon.

My feelings exactly... Now if it could get up in the morning and truck off to work for me I just might be tempted LOL.

The point? So some can say they own the latest and greatest cuz imo "the majority" of buyers will unlikely use to the fullest either.

I'm going to out on a limb an guess that the 5000mAh battery in the Ultra will maintain the battery at least as good as the current S10+ or Note10+. On a personal note, battery life rarely impacts my day because in most of my situations I can easily charge and fast charging works well enough that I never have battery anxiety or play wall hugger. In situations where I know I'm not going to be to top off I bring my juice pack. It's just a non-issue. That's not to be dismissive of it's importance to others but I believe battery life will be OK. Of course I could be wrong but time will tell. For those on the fence you can always wait to see how we make out within the next week or so.

Exactly. Love these Fast Charges.

For me having two, iPhone 11 Pro Max I never have to worry about battery life. LOL
