Why Are You Not Upgrading To Or Buying The S20?

Don't know why they got rid of the headphone jack. I get Bluetooth but why not appeal to both camps?
I'm going for the LG V60. My first $1000/+ phone. It has a headphone jack and the specs are more than respectable.

I have an S7 Edge and am trying to decide whether to upgrade to an S20 or S10+. The S10+ is $1,130 brand new (or $999 for an open box). The S20 is $1,320 brand new and comes with Galaxy Buds, Wireless Qi charger, and 128GB memory card ($335 retail value). Decisions, decisions!

S8+ user here. Was waiting for the S20 to upgrade but don't find the features compelling enough. I just bought a new S10+ for half the price of an S20+and will sell the S8+.

Though the S10+ is not better than the S20, you certainly got the better value there. You also get a much nicer design, nicer color options, and a headphone jack. And this is coming from someone going from the S10 to the S20. Good move.

IMO as phone is not an investment, it's something to be used and enjoyed, they will all lose value (obviously the more expensive the phone the more the loss) but it is what it is, we buy them because we either want to be on the top of the food chain or because certain features appeal to us. In my case, I pre-ordered the S20+ 5G not because I wanted to upgrade really but I recently sold my MacBook Pro and iPhone 11 Pro and want to get back to using Windows + Android so it was a non-brainer to pre-order it.

I paid $450 for my s10+ best buy is giving me $600 for it

For me its simple, I can wait for the Note 20 or whatever it will be called because as much as they increased specs on the S20, the note will be even better. So why not get the better version. All the errors of the S20 will be corrected for the note 20 plus a few new goodies. Plus I do use the S pen for a lot of things.

Why not wait for the S21 or S30 (whatever it'll be called). Specs will always be increased, so what's the cut off point for waiting?

Still have an S8. I waited for this announcement but I couldn't warrant spending that kind of money on an S20 plus I liked the size of my S8. So I found what I think is a great deal on an S10e. We will see when it gets here. I found a white S10e 128gb unlocked in the Amazon Warehouse sold by Amazon. It was labeled used like new but details were "still in the box but box damaged." I can always send it back since it is Amazon but it cost me a net total of $311 after 20% warehouse discount I had and 5% back for using Amazon CC.

So is this going to seem like a big upgrade from my S8? Longer software upgrades, flatter screen, and side fingerprints instead of on the back are the key reasons for upgrading. Any suggestions on the best place to sell my S8 to maximize my net return? Swappa? eBay? If I can get 2 or even 3 more years out of the S10e for a net cost of say around $150 after seling S8...that would be great!

Cause if i'm upgrading every year, i'm waiting to get the best one to upgrade to. Normally the Note is the same or better than the new S series phone except for a total redesign. And I expect the same thing this year when it drops.

Just played with all three S20's for an hour and here's why I'm probably not upgrading from my S10:

The only real camera upgrade seems to be the Ultra but it just feels too heavy in hand and pocket and it feels like the regular/plus times three (even if it isn't, it still feels 3x the weight when holding it). Working outdoor construction and on my feet most of the day or walking around say the boardwalk or an amusement park I think the bulk and weight of the Ultra would get uncomfortable over the day.

The plus feels much thinner and lighter than the ultra but... I extensively played with the cameras side-by-side with my S10 and there really wasn't much difference. I'm mainly interested in video over still images so I was mainly testing video quality of indoor since I go to a lot of concerts and sporting night time events like Monster Jam and Supercross. The Ultras camera in the size, weight, and form factor of the plus would of been a perfect upgrade from my S10 and I would be pre-ordering it right now without hesitation but I don't think I could deal with the weight and bulk of the Ultra in my pocket all day.

Other things that turn me off of it was losing the headphone jack, the 120hz looks fake like that fake motion smoothing on a TV and not real 120Hz on a PC gaming monitor. I would call it similar to the soap opera effect. I have a high end Asus 165Hz gaming monitor paired with a Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti so I know what true high refresh rates look and feel like and I know what fake'ish motion smoothing looks like on TV processing. I wasn't really impressed with the 120Hz mode but side-by-side I could notice the slight skippyness of scrolling on my 60Hz display but the 120Hz looks there's a little too much fake smoothing going on as well.

The space zoom doesn't even work for video either, only for still images. Not that I would even use it for video but just saying I expected the same zoom for both still and video. And then there's the heft price of the Ultra (it should come with at least 256Gb standard and not 128). Oh well, maybe next year the plus model can get an actual camera upgrade like the Ultra has now or the Ultra can be made lighter and thinner.

I think your S10e would be a definite upgrade from the S8. Better camera, display and operating system, and that side fingerprint scanner is apparently ridiculously fast. I was about to pull the trigger on the S10e but got an S10. But I know I would've been happy with it. Plus, the white colour is spectacular! And I wish I could've had the chance to try out that fingerprint scanner.

Let us know when it comes and how you are liking it!

I will let you know. Yea, the back fingerprint sensor on my S8 had become a minor hassle when connected to android auto in my car. Yes, I know don't mess with your phone in the car but at red lights, it locks and I would have to try to reach around the back of it or unplug to unlock. Side fingerprint makes sense to me in my situation anyway. Looks like I can expect $150 to $180 for my S8 on swappa. Upgrade for about $150 out of pocket seems like a steal. Fingers crossed the Amazon warehouse S10e is truly like new.

Hopefully I finally figured out that the Note line is what is best for me...LOL

I leave it and always miss it.
