Why aren't I receiving Gmail push notifications on the Galaxy S6?

I will provide more details when the issue is resolved, I don't want to say anything right now until it is resolved for the sake of impeding progress and information that should not be out there. Be patient and rest assured what you are seeing now is known.

Well, could you give me something? I'm sorry, and do not intend to be rude, but all I'm getting on the subject is a guy in a forum telling me a fix is in the works. I'd like to be able to make an informed decision on my phone purchase, and without something a little more concrete than what I'm getting doesn't help me make said informed decision.

This issue is also occurring to me on my Galaxy S6 Edge in some circumstances:
- When only connected to my 4G network everything works as expected. (even with the screen off)
- When I'm connected to my Wi-Fi network at home or the Wi-Fi network at work, and the screen is off then the problem occurs and I receive no notifications.

Several other people are having this issue: (As this is my first post, I'm not able to post links yet, so you will have to prepend the http yourself :))

People are reporting in these threads that the issue occurs only on IPv6 networks.

I looked into the option to configure a static IPv4 address in my WiFi settings, but that didn't solve the problem.
I don't want to root my phone to disable IPv6, so I couldn't verify that either.
My router doesn't support the option to disable IPv6, so I couldn't verify that either.

Hi there,
I am having the very same issue (I think)
Notifications work fine when phone is in use, but as soon as its left idle 'boom' they vanish!
Problems with snapchat, Facebook Outlook etc.

Also, when phone is idle I can't control music on Spotify through external Bluetooth device (melody speaker, car steering wheel stick).

I am guessing both of these issues are related.

Any idea of how I can resolve this very annoying problem? I read a solution coming, any idea when?

Thanks

I made a thread about this before but it was my Yahoo mail app that suddenly stopped receiving push. It used to be instant which I liked because you didnt have to set it for sync intervals like 15m 30m etc. Doesnt seem to matter if im on WiFi or not

I am having the same issue and have also tried the fixes suggested by our friends on this site. My Samsung Galaxy 3 (which I still have) continues to sync my gmail emails real time so it is the Samsung Galaxy 6 that is the issue.

Re: Not receiving Gmail push notifications on Galaxy S6

Yeah, I don't know how this doesn't get more press. How can the major reviews skip this? It's like they have some blacklist thing like Apple does. All these sites don't mention a thing about a HUGE issue like this.

Older phones are not affected, this problem is not just specific to S6, trust me, just be patient and a fix is in the works. There are multiple bugs, some software related and others carrier related.

try this:
go to settings--accounts
on the right top corner click on "more" then choose "enable auto sync" then click ok
it worked for me; hope itvworks for you

:( also me i had the same issue i tried every thing but it still work for a few hours after that i did not receive any notification :( my phone is s6 edge

The Galaxy S8 will be out by the time thay have a fix for this.

I dont know if this is the same problem, but I was getting an error that Sync wasnt working under the gmail account. I realized that BOTH "Gmail" & "Inbox" were syncing at the same time. I am not using "Inbox", so I shut off the sync just for "Inbox" and everything started working. Note: I am referring to "Inbox by Gmail".

Can you try to remove your account and re-add again?

Go to Android settings > scroll down and tap on "Accounts" > find the Google account > Tap on this and you navigate deeper in a sub menu > tap your email address and tap "more" in the next submenu > remove the account
Then add your Gmail again. To do this go to Settings --> Accounts and then "Add Account". Now select "Google Account”. It now opens the wizard to add the Google account. Enter your e-mail address from Gmail and then continue. Your Google account is then added automatically.

Let me know if this works
