Why aren't I receiving Gmail push notifications on the Galaxy S6?

What's the status on the fix?

It has been fixed in Silicon valley (SF/ Cali) a week ago, it is being rolled out across the nation, I myself in So Cali are waiting so you can be sure it will take a while but it is being slowly rolled out.

Same issue on the Note 5 - what should I do? Exchange? Notifications still come through on the lock screen on my work wifi - when I am home on my home wifi with the lock screen on I don't get any notifications.

What is this "FIX" ???? are you suggesting 5.1.1 ??? or is it a fix to the App(s) ??

The mobile network issues has nothing to do with your phone, it is a carrier issue. The wifi problem is a software bug that Samsung is aware of and is working to fix and it is not resolved in 5.1.1. No there is no app to fix this, if you want it fixed now you must change your APN.

What is APN - and Samsung told me today that this isn't an issue

Don't want to speak too soon but my notifications have been working with the screen off for going on 3 hours.

16 hours strong - social media notifications still working. Did I actually find a fix? I hope so.

I just got a brand new Note 5 and I'm seeing this same issue.. It's affecting both Hangouts and Gmail. Any news on this update? Somewhat related: I'm a recent switcher from iOS to Android.

It has been fixed in my area, so far so good, if you are experiencing problems still it probably has not been rolled out to your area yet

I *think* I have figured out why this is occurring ... It seems to have something to do with WiFi being "always on" during Sleep. I turned this option to "NEVER" & I am now getting Push notifications when the phone is in Sleep mode. I'd be curious if others find this to solev their problem as well.

Settings / WiFi / Advanced / Keep WiFi On During Sleep <<< turn this "NEVER"

I had wondered about this too, Tim. Theoretically wouldn't that turn WiFi off while the phone is sleeping, thus using your data instead of WiFi for notifications? I'll try that though and see. Thanks!

Yes, it does ... I installed an app called LeanDroid that "toggles" WiFi OFF during Sleep & turns it back on when I wake it up ... Seems to be working so far.

This may be a premature answer, but I think my notifications are indeed doing better now. I'll need to mess with this setting more later and see if I'm seeing the same results if I toggle this back. One thing that I definitely noticed before is with Hangouts, every time I would open the app, it would say "Signed in as <email>" Leading me to believe this definitely has to do with connection. Before it was doing it almost every single time I would hit the home button and go back into the app. Now that seems to have at least lessened. I'll give another update after a bit. Thanks for the help/suggestions!

Unfortunately that still has not resolved it. I was sitting at my desk, unlocked my phone and was navigating around without any notifications until I actually opened Hangouts. Once I did, I had two messages that had not notified me.

I can't vouch for Google HANGOUTS - as I don't use it ... But I can say for a FACT that I am NOW getting push notifications for everything, including my EMAIL. So that Always-On/Always-Scan WiFi feature is Definitely the issue. And that LeanDroid App is a great help. The amount of data being downloaded when the phone is asleep is negligible - and I have my email set to only Fetch up to 50kb of data until I get a chance to Open it using WiFi. Good luck. (ahem: Google, Please Address this WiFi issue !!)

It has nothing to do with those settings, the issues is related to ipv6, on the mobile side ATT has it resolved and is pushing the fix out across the nation. With respect to wifi it is a bug with the software which Samsung implemented to save battery, when they will actually fix it is anyone's guess but it has nothing to do with leaving your wifi on unless you are connected to your router via ipv6. Disable ipv6 on your router and your APN and it will be resolved on both ends until the mobile fix is rolled in your area.

This will be my last post here about this.

Good luck

Uh, OK ... but all I can tell you is Cause & Effect for ME. I toogle off WiFi when the phone Sleeps & I am now receiving ALL push notifications. After 2 days of confirming this I am Happy again. So if/when Verizon pushes out the "IPV6 Fix", I will be even Happier as I should be able to turn WiFi back on permanently. :-)

YMMV
