Why aren't you "upgrading" to the Nexus 9?

jjhoneck and I are on the same page, and same bunch of forums!

N7 is perfect form factor and feature pack for what I need. N9 is too big, and very much not worth the extra costfor how I use it.

Like so many other have said.
Cost + middling reviews + poor build quality + my Nexus 7 (2013) getting Lollipop = No urge to buy a Nexus 9.
My hunch is poor holiday sales will spur a $100 reduction in the spring. If they get the quality issues squared away, maybe, I'll buy, but I admit getting Lollipop is like getting a new tablet. I changed the original wallpaper and it feels even more like it's brand new.

Waiting for HTC to release their own tablets. Ive used the 9 a few times now, just doesnt quite do it for me. More so vanilla android isnt doing it for me. I want to see Sense on a tablet since Im a huge fan of it. So that will likely be my replacement for the 7

I am not "upgrading" to the Nexus 9 because I prefer the smaller size of the 7.

Posted via my underrated Xperia Z3v.

Device is too wide and big.
Nexus 7 fits perfectly to pockets and all kind different places. It is pleasure to keep in one hand and drawn with a another hand using stylus (passive) hand resting on the edge.

I would take otherwise a wider Nexus if it would be as wide aka shorter. But then the keyboard would take too much space.

So nexus 7 is best to me.

I purchased Nexus 7 2013 less than a month before the Nexus 9 got released. I could have waited for it if I wanted to purchase it in the first place. But I went with Nexus 7 2013 because all the reviews I read before I went to the shop, it was clear that Nexus 7 is still one of best tablets around for its price. And I use mine mostly for reading/studying purpose which is properly being fulfilled by this device so far. I see absolutely no necessity to upgrade to a Nexus 9 as of yet and I haven't liked its specs for its price tag. Besides if I wanted to go for a Tab with larger screen size I would buy the nVidia Shield one which I believe is quite impressive than the Nexus 9. However if I have to purchase a new Tab in near future it won't be a Nexus 9.

I sold my 1st N7.2 in January. I got an N9 the 1st day it was available. Had it for a month, then returned it, and got a new N7.2 for $150.

I realize I never should have sold the 1st one.

I actually ended up going in a slightly opposite direction - I bought a Galaxy Note 4 and it has become device of choice over my Nexus 7, something I never expected. I was interested in the Nexus 9 as a replacement for my custom ROM'd TF700T but was put off by the negative reviews. I needed a phone update and went with the Note 4 and I find myself grabbing and using it at those times I would have used my 2013 N7 in the past (also had a 2012 N7). Using the Note 4, now my N7 feels overly large and even somewhat laggy - and I loved my N7.

Ive gone back to the N7 FHD, got one for $160 like new on Amazon and an official Google Folio for $10. I have had 4... yes FOUR Nexus 9`s so people cannot say i didnt give it a fair go, even though they do on that side of the forum" and it was my 4th N9 that was actually decent with good build quality but thats not enough. I dont care what anyone with a N9 says, if they say different then they are straight up lying trying to protect their purchase but the N9 lags, its can take seconds to switch apps. the 7 does not seem to do this, it can literally take a full 4 - 5 seconds sometimes to return to the home screen. I dont know if its the K1 or poor optimization so far but for a $500 tablet its really poor.

Back to my trusty old fave being the N7 FHD.... and if the 7 is to small for you then i highly recommend the LG G PAD 8.3 Google Play Edition over the Nexus 9... though they are getting hard to find now

I think the bottom line here is that the N7 2013 doesn't yet show a hint of being outdated and the value can't be beat. It's as simple as that. All that the N9 really offers is a bigger screen but it is at a price that makes no sense for most N7 owners.

I'm not so sure I would buy the N7 right now if I was buying my first new tablet but it was a no brainer to buy a year ago when I got it and it's a no brainer to keep using it right now.

Also I am not so sure I will ever update to android 5.0.X. Everything runs to perfection right now I don't see how the new os will make things any better.

Well said!! You are 100% correct

So, why haven't you dumped this older device for a brand new N9? After all, newer's better, right? ?????? Just wondering...

No i am very happy with my Samaung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 for a least 2 years. :)

However i will be getting new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, It is way better than the Nexus 9!!

* Because the 7" form factor is perfect.
* Because I love wireless charging

If Google only would update the Nexus 7 with a Snapdragon 810 and nothing else changed I'd buy it(maybe 3) immediately!

Funny this thread is active now. I just sold my Nexus 7 2013. I bought the Asus ZenPad S 8.0 last week. Beautiful 8 inch HD screen and 32 GB of memory.
This is the successor to the Asus Nexus 7. So far, it's been a great upgrade.
