why can't I change the password on find my device like everyone else??

I have been trying to change the password on via find my phone but it is not working like everyone else .. its stating that I already have a password on the device.... so does the rest but they were able to change their password... i don't want to erase the information off the phone as it is my work phone so i am really in need of some help right now ... if anyone can be of assistance that would be really great thanks in advance...

Welcome to Android Central! Find My Device does not allow the user to change an existing password remotely. It will only let you create a password if the device in question didn't have one in the first place. If the device already had a password set, then Find My Device can remotely lock the screen, since a password already exists. Anyone else who tells you that Find My Device can remotely change a password is mistaken.
