Why can't i move any files onto an sd card?

Re: why can't i move any files onto a sd card

Hi hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me.
I have a galaxy s5 that has now run out of storage, but I have a ad card in that is basically empty, I have tried moving the videos and photos onto the sd card but I keep getting a failed message I'm doing it through the my files app but no joy I can't even create another foldean to move them into on the sd as this also gives me a failed message.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this prob for me manythanks
ps. I also have just changed from Apple to a HTC one m8 so any tips and tricks I should know about on that phone would be great, before you think I'm greedy the s5 is the wife's lol.
Many thanks

The last recommendation on this thread fixed my same issue. Turn off developer option. I was unable to add an image to another in edit mode as well. After I turned off the developer option....all was good. It had been driving me crazy not being able to do these things.

How do I go about turning off developer options?

Re: why can't i move any files onto a sd card

I tried all of the methods listed here but without success. However I have found something that works.

1: install File Manager + (by Flashlight)
2: install Advanced Task Manager (by Infolife)
3: Go into the ATM Settings, then add all of your apps to the Ignore List, EXCEPT File Manager +
4: Place the ATM widget right next to the FM+ app on your Homescreen.

File Manager + will happily copy files onto external usb drives and SD cards, but ONLY one time, after booting up. So each time you copy or move a file to a usb stick just remember to press the ATM widget when you've finished. This will Force Stop FM+. Then it's all ready to do it again next time.

Re: why can't i move any files onto a sd card

If you have developer options turned on this may cause you not to be able to move items. I was having this problem and as soon as I turned the developer options off, I moved the files without any issues.

First I don't understand why people repeat the same answer of bad SD Card...Needless to say Thanks for saying turn off developer options. I can now move files to SD card.

I just did the universal thing nd started working

i have same problem. i try another sd but it work. my friends try my sd. he move a picture from internal storage to my sdcard. it works too. whats wrong? the phone or the sd??
please answer this

An app can save files in a folder it made on the SD card, but it can't save files in a folder made by another app - unless the phone is rooted and you change a system file. Just another bad choice by Google.

YOU ARE THE SHIZNIT MECH25! I would never have thought to turn off developer options but that did the trick. I can't thank you enough!

I understand that this is an old question on this forum, but I want to give my two cents for all the help I have gotten on the INTERNET... :)

I recently ran into the same problem on my Android phone. I simply couldn't move 4 files from my phone storage space to my SD Card. I read through the replies and comments for this question, but I just recently installed a BRAND NEW SD Card and have used it. So, It couldn't be an issue with my SD Card. Then, something just dawned on me as I was looking through the files I was trying to move to my SD Card... Being LAZY, I tend to use the same name for all the files whenever I SMS my images from my email account on my desktop to my cellphone. Since I already had files in my SD Card with the same name as the files that I was trying to move into my SD Card, the phone kept telling me Trouble moving 4 files. Once I changed the filenames to something else, it didn't complain and moved the files.

So, if all else fails, simply change your file names totally to something else.

Cheers!!! :)

Re: I just did the universal thing nd started working

Thank you, Varad Jade. It was none of the problems discussed here. My Developer options was NOT on, my SD card is a reputable one and it has been working all along, there was nothing wrong with the card label, etc. I had removed the card recently and placed it in my laptop to back it up. Since then, it was not working awhile in the phone as it used to before I removed it from the phone.. I could not create folders, move files to it, etc. Varad's was the only solution that worked. Thank you.
