Why cant i put a password on my brand new sd card?

Just bought an SD card for my phone. I can't put a lock on it because I don't know the code to unlock it to put one on it.... Why does it have a code if its brand new???!!!

Welcome to Android Central! So when you insert the SD card, it asks you for a password? It must have been encrypted, which means it's not brand new. Bring it back to the seller and ask for an exchange.
