Why can't I see text previews on my samsung galaxy s7 edge

[Android Central Question]

I've tried everything. Gone into setting - notifications - messages - more settings in app - preview message (no other options - and apparently there should be). My preview message is on. I have restarted phone to no avail. I used to have the option but I think the latest software update a couple of days ago got rid of it. Please help.
