Why can't I send an 11 second 1280x720 video via Textra ??

Hi all,
Is there any reason why such a short low res 1280x720 video won't send using Textra app via at&t LTE ?

Very frustrating.....

First, see how big the file is. Then in Textra, go to Settings>MMS>MMS Advanced>Send Size & try increasing the size to accommodate larger files. According to AT&T, their size limit is 1MB.

Oh, and fwiw, unless EVERY person you know owns an iPhone, then there is NEVER a good reason to use iMessage.

I know I know.....Just very very very frustrated last night. We were out on the town and saw some great pre halloween costumes and we tried sending the video to friends and .......Nothing, unable to send. Even though I set the res low.

As a test I just did another 11 second sample video set on VGA and it still won't send. It is 6MB. So I can only assume that to fall under AT&T's 1MB limit my VGA videos would have to be about 1.3 seconds long. Awesome

On the note 2 there was a setting to limit for mms. Even then if it was over 1MB it wouldn't send.
Unless I'm mistaken, imessage is not standard sms. If that's the case it explains why you would be able to send it.
I also think Google hangouts is non standard sms, but the other party would probably need to be using hangouts to see it, just like imessage.
There are 3rd party messaging apps that will store the video on their server and send the other party a link to view the video.

I think the "right" way to do it is to upload your video to a service such as you tube, Dropbox, vimeo or maybe even drive. Then you just send the link via sms so they can stream/download it from the service. I say "right" but I don't agree that it's ideal.

Honestly we always just send videos through hangouts, or Facebook messenger now. We don't even bother trying to send via mms.

I just sent a 13sec video via Textra and when my gf finds her phone we'll see. The alarm did sound off.

PS it sent and played just fine, over T-Mobile

Honestly we always just send videos through hangouts, or Facebook messenger now. We don't even bother trying to send via mms.

Well iPhones automatically default to SMS/MMS if the other person isn't using iMessage or in the case of a group chat, if even one person in the group is not on iMessage. So you can absolutely enjoy the advantages of iMessage even if EVERY person you know doesn't use an iPhone. The switch is seamless to the user. The only issue is if it does default to regular SMS/MMS then whatever you send becomes subject to carrier imposed file size limits, on the receiving party's end.

I know what you mean. I know you probably said this out of frustration, but iMessage is the ONLY thing keeping using my iPhone over a Note 5. Probably 99% of the people I regularly communicate with use iPhones. So that combined with the fact that I own a Mac and an iPad means there are definite advantages to using iMessage.

It's normally a.link to the video via google photos . But in fb messenger it's an actual video file

Yes I was and still am very frustrated. This video sending issue for me may be the only issue forcing me back to iOS which I truly hate even though I am a staunch Mac user. I would think Samsung has the ability to design something that would send any videos to others via any SMS/MMS app.
I can't be sending links to videos to the people I communicate with. I say that because I know they aren't going to click on them for two reasons: 1. They might assume it is some malware or virus link

Your issue is with your carrier not Samsung. Samsung is not the one that limits the mms attachment size. This simply one of the differences between the Android OS and the iOS. IMO if you aren't willing to adapt then you should stay with iOS where you seem to happy.

No technically my issue is with Samsung. Apple addressed the issue by coming out with iMessage so users would not be limited by carrier caps. Samsung needs a similar platform. If I shut iMessage off on my iPhone then it will not send a video via sms/mms either.

I'd take it a step further. I'd like to see Google come out with an Android-wide solution. It seems they are working on their offering which is why they purchased Jibe Mobile. I hope they are using that acquisition to roll out a really good messaging service for Android that offers RCS based features like Apple's iMessage as well as to somehow encourage the US carriers to speed up their implementation of RCS messaging. Right now, I believe T-Mo is the only carrier even openly talking about and offering RCS. And even then, it's only on a handful of 2015 model phones. I think it will take years for carriers to fully embrace RCS, so for now, I'm sticking with my iPhone and iMessage.

Google isn't going to make any changes. This is what makes Android attractive to manufacturers and carriers. It's open for them to molest it and set limits, then lock it before it gets into consumer hands. Apple doesn't allow the carrier to touch anything.

I've done it before, I'll agree that it's not as quick as imessage for the recipient, but that's not my problem. Ha. Hope it works for you.
