Why can't we get top specs in a normal Size???

All Rican has used is personal oppinions there havent been any facts no data nothing just him saying that everyone thinks like him yet I have only seen 3 or 4 people here say the same not millions, not thousands, not hundreds, heck not even a full ten. Yes im sure there are a few who want similar prospects but I promise untill you find a way to convince oems that you arent a small market I refuse to believe you as again in money making business these guys go where the money is niche markets arent money:rolleyes:

20 million sgs3 sold in 100days

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2

Don't know where you guys got those numbers.

The estimates I've read put this quarter's sales as low as 21 million to as high as 32.3 million, with a median of 27 million.

First quarter sales were 26 million and 2nd quarter were 35 million. These are just US sales figures though.

The iPhone 5 sold 5 million in one weekend - 2 or 3 days.

Worldwide, yes Samsung stated that they had sold over 20 million in the first 100 days. Only 4 million in the USA in that time though.

What I am guessing you all are referring to is that the iPhone (specifically, the 4S) lost it's first place sales position in 2 of the top 3 carriers in August and September.

Have no doubt, it got it back this month.

Are we going US only because I was unaware of that iPhone sells worldwide and many seem to love bringing it into this debate

It's a small world now. I say we use the world as our measuring stick.

Whoo that adds up to 15 million in 90 days compared to samsungs 20 million in 100 days and thats assuming the rate of sales didnt change for apple im sorry again that you seem to be making terrible arguments

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2

And which argument would that be? The fact that the SGIII sold 20 million in 100 days has no bearing on the sales or demand for the of the mid-sized iPhone.

The entire discussion has become silly. At the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with asking for a smaller high end device. No one heres knowd two s$@ts about what research has or hasnt been done by anyone.

All we have is an extremely popular platform in the iphone in a smaller design. And while there are multiple factors for its success, without a doubt, one of those is size and balance. How much or how little that is is unknown. You would have to servey ios customers worldwide to know this for sure. Either way, there's enough success in there to justify that a smaller high end device market may be bigger than one thinks. Simple argument simple evidence.

I'd take the Razr M which I think is a perfect device for me. However, with the exclusivity of that phone on Verizon, I don't have that option being on AT&T. Exclusivity is good for corporations, but bad for consumers. Save your breath saying "then just switch to Verizon," because receiving a corporate discount on AT&T precludes this. In my opinion, AT&T doesn't offer a single good mid-sized phone. Just may have to settle for the Xperia TL if it ever becomes available.

That 20 million people were willing to buy a 4.8 inch phone so larger screen phones must have some demand

I've got a galaxy note and the size is fine for meh :P Although i think the ideal sweet spot is at 4.65 like the galaxy nexus :D

Just got some feedback from a HTC one s user and they seem to be pretty happy with their purchase.

The One S is a fine phone, but overall you get less for your $$ at 4" and under in the Android world.

Example :
T-Mobile. First indicator here is that screen size isn't even selectable as a search criteria.

Next, What do I get for $99 or less vs the iPhone 4S 16GB?

First thing is LG MyTouch Q. 3.5" screen, 320x480 pixel, 2GB of memory and a 1Ghz single core processor. More a competitor to the iPhone 4 than the 4S, and even at that the iPhone 4 will rip this puppy to pieces.

Next, the MyTouch. Same hardware specs but with a much improved screen resolution. Still 2GB of memory. Still 2.3 Gingerbread.... It's free though. This one might be a worthy competitor to the iPhone 4, if it were not for the paltry storage and Gingerbread OS.

So at the $49.99 point, I see another 'MyTouch'. Better, 1.4Ghz Snapdragon single core with 4GB of storage and a 4" display. Still Gingerbread though. OK, this one can compete with an iPhone 4 8GB, but carries a $50 price premium vs the iPhone 4. It's not a competitor to the 4S - the display, OS (gingerbread), storage, and camera all make it clearly inferior.

So the first $99 phone I see here is the Galaxy S Blaze 4G. Now we're talking, a Galaxy phone!!!
With a dual core 1.5Ghz snapdragon (win), 5 MP camera (lose), 720p camcorder (lose), and Gingerbread 2.3 (big lose). It has 4G (win), Adreno 200 GPU (lose), and a 480x800 235 ppi display (big lose). 1GB of internal storage, with up to 32GB via mini SD card (extra $$). This phone gives you a lot less for your $$ than the 4S.

Next up is the One S at $150. This is the only phone I know of that can sorta match up against an iPhone 4S / 5. It's also over the 4" requirement, has a lower resolution display, lower PPI, slower GPU, and an inferior camera to the 4S. In its favor is a faster CPU, 4G, and ICS.

Edit: Found the Droid Incredible at Verizon for $99. This one matches up nicely against the 4S if we consider the 4S to compete against a 4" screen phone. Seems that HTC is the only company with serious competitors around the 4" screen size point. It's no 5, but it's also $100 cheaper. I didn't see anything at Sprint worth mentioning in this space.

But really, the point is -

Nothing I found, at least at T-Mobile, in the 4" and under space can touch the last gen 4S and in most cases the 2 generation old 4.

Bluntly...

I don't think the other phone makers are capable of making a phone good enough to compete with the iPhone 4S / 4 or 5 in a small screen form factor. It's pretty clear that they are not even getting close with current phones.

Its because they dont need to they captured markets iPhone hasnt filled Jesus Samsung built half of apples components and you think they dont have the capability if this is your thought your blind.

They all have the capability. I think going larger is just OEMs chasing their tails. An example if this, and apple is included in this... is OEMs constantly looking to go thinner. It has been well established now that people do not care so much for super thin. People clearly would give up light and thin for increased battery life. So you finally see a bit of a shift back from this with the razr maxx hd, the new nexus 4, and others who are now raising the bar by adding batteries over 2000mah and making the next evolution to their products a bit heavier or not any thinner than the previous.

What it comes down to is that OEMs aren't the gods of all ideas and thought. They clearly make mistakes and make poor decisions despite their years of experience in the business. Just look at RIM today, the king of missteps, but also the godfather to the smartphone. If they paid me at least half what they pay their top exects, i could of told them 3 years ago that they were on the wrong track!

I doubt you could do half of what these execs do there is way more than saying build this. Besides your talking about going head to head with apple instead of tackling every single market they dont cover which in most eyes would lead to a far safer and more profitable than going after the exact same market apple does you would lead companies into a firey grave :banghead:

I actually think that in the next couple of years we will see some higher spec android phones. For now they are riding the big screen bus. But as some people buy the bigger devices and realize that they are a bit too big then the market may shift. I truly hope they do make a better small device. I was hoping that the S3 mini was going to be that device as I believe this thread started before that phone was announced. Lol.

For now I'm saying One S. That poster from the other thread said the camera was pretty good. Maybe no 4s but still good.

Nice in comparison to a potato. It's tolerable, but I can't give it any better than that, considering Sammy, HTC, Sony, and Apple all manage to put pretty sweet phones in their top devices. I get that the Nexus isn't a top end device anymore, but even at launch it's camera was sub par.

If Google actually had an interest in the consumer market, Camera should be at the top of the hardware list to improve, as it's the number one question a lot of people (Average users, not us tech-heads) ask.

One nexus was NEVER top end ever.

Two nexus was not built necessarily as a consumer centric device its more a developer device than anything.

Three ive seen pics from gnex and they look fine owners of the nex seem to agree the camera works well you want crazy high def buy a dslr or something these are phones Jesus Christ would you like them to walk your dog and wipe your butt for you too?

No, not top end, but at launch, it was up there.

Yes, I understand that. But people keep saying (not you, just in general) that Google is trying to break in to the regular consumer side.

I have a GNEX, so my response is from experience (And the fact that I have phones of all types at work to compare with) I never said I wanted a DSLR, I clearly compared it to other cell phone cameras. Why are you so upset? I said it's decent, but not any better than that, when compared to other cell phone cameras on the market, which is accepted pretty widely in the industry.
