Why did you choose to own a Android device over a Windows phone or IPhone?

Mostly customizability and having a lot more choices in terms of hardware.

I can do whatever I please with my device. The functionality of Android makes it better than any other OS. Until Unbuntu drops, Android is the best.

Ios needs to be jail broken to do what stock android can do.

WP needs...a whole new management team going in a complete different direction to unlock it's potential.

BB is dead afaiac.

(Most)Android phones allow choice for what the individual wants as far as they desire to go with their phones, and some like my m8 are exceptional as is or with minimal changes.

One other thing,I don't know if anyone else has noticed this or not,but most Android forums I read, doesn't have as many cry babies on them. Sure there is a lot of people who have issues and are looking for help, but good grief some of the other platforms have some of the biggest whiners I have ever seen, all you have to do is read some of the comments on some of the articles. Heck it's like a kindergarden at times.......While that may not seem a good reason to choose one platform over another,it certainly does get awful tiresome having to read through all the crying looking for additional information about stuff.

Anyway I'm really happy now back on this phone and the wife is too. Freedom is an appropriate word for many reasons

2012 May/June. 7-8 years with continuous replacements for a SE P910i. Top end phones always out of my reach, or made no financial sense on outrageous contracts or outright. Working towards the London Olympics 2 colleagues had Galaxy S2's. Made enquiries online. Was able to buy an S2 for £140 outright 6 months after the S3 came out, if agreed to cheap £10 24 mnth sim contract. Were still selling around £400 if I remember and S3 well above 500. Delighted it was sealed and came with 4 0 ICS when I was expecting 2.3.
No idea about Android. Apples were out of reach, thankfully. Just a great deal.

18 months later still not much idea about Android until I bought a Note 3 on eBay, ex Amazon, and found Android Central.

They let me in!

Flexibility, hardware, and apps. Way more flexibility in the OS than iOS. More hardware choices than iOS and Windows Phone and nearly infinitely more apps than Windows Phone.

Flexibility, choice and speed of advancement.

iOS is closed and static. You're stuck with one or two phones and your OS is pretty closed off... yes, you can jailbreak and fiddle with a few things, but your options are limited and you are still stuck with Apple telling you what your phone should do. Out of the box, Android is more fluid... rooting an Android phone opens up even more... and if you load custom ROMs, you can customize pretty much everything. Plus, with the vibrant development community plugging away, Android evolves quickly. With iOS, everyone just sits around and guesses at new features that they MIGHT get in the next version... with Android, devs go out and make those features themselves.

WP? Well, if Microsoft hasn't managed to get that thing to catch on by now, I question the long term viability of the platform. I wouldn't even put in on the 'might look at' list. BB is just farther down the same path to extinction.

I owned I phones upto the 4. I saw the Note and was like I got to get one. The day I later I got it a friend said you know the note 2 comes out in 2 weeks. Before that I didn't know the difference or really care. I like both os. I just hate the fragmentation due to so many companies and delay of updates.

I know what you by delay of updates. Doesn't that come down to carrier though? Because for my Moto G I'm still running Android 4.4.2 and I'm using Boost mobile they still have not released 4.4.4 on Boost Mobile for this phone. But everywhere else this phone is sold has it :(

I don't remember exactly why I chose android over iOS but I'm very happy with my decision

I started my smartphone journey in 2006 with a Moto Q...remember those? It was really State of art in day...transitioned to HTC Ozone not ready to abandon Windows CE for iOS. Then got Verizon Trophy for WP7. I actually liked the phone for an advance over CE....but I saw people in Starbucks who could pay with their phones...I saw people at Southwest board without printing a ticket...my bank came out with an app. I could access none of that and after a year I got app envy and left for MOTO RAZR MAXX and ICS. Never looked back.

I have both a note3 and a iphone 5. Most of the time I find myself using i5 because of its size, easier to carry and use with one hand.

I've had an iphone before, but after my iphone was broken. I bought a new one with Android system in order to try out new things! I think Android is way better than Iphone after that, especially the "Back" button and its open-source code. Also, I love Java....so Android is one of the best thing I've ever had!
