Because It still is very very much useful and Many people still have headphones/earphones with the jack. We can lose it when the market matures more for this case.
Constantly plugging and unplugging to a USB connector, C or any other? No, the connector isn't made for that. (Even charging through it every day is misuse.) A 3.5mm connector is MUCH more vigorous.
But what is out now that they need the extra space? I think ppl wouldn't be as opposed to it if they replaced it with an actual beneficial feature.. The iPhone added a haptic feedback and IDK what moto added but neither of them added what the majority of ppl finds necessaryWeigh the cost / benefits. Benefits would be extra real estate to have more stuff in the phone, that would be nice. Costs - many users probably that would be a deal-breaker. I think the sampling on this thread alone shows that many of us still use it
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or serious :-\
I don't think phones should be required to be water resistant if it will make the sound not as good I think the companies should just provide a case that provides water proofing...I want to say no just to go anti iPhone. But the truth is the headphone jack can be done away with in my opinion. I've been using bluetooth bluetooth-headsets-headphones for a while now and wireless is the way to go. And for those times you need a wired connection for your listening pleasure, I think they should just do audio over USB C like the OP suggested.
It may be old but it's very useful. Glad it's still around.
