Android Central Question

I noticed recently that at the top of my phone, the google chrome cast icon pops up consecutively every 1 minute or so. Does that mean my phone is being cast or mirrored every time this icon pops up? I have not personally set up any google chrome cast icon myself so I'm wondering if someone I know has done that without my knowledge.

I hear ya, but Id rather not have to lose all the data and apps i have installed.

My only real concern is the fear that there might be some kind of spyware on my phone--im worried about my passwords, personal info, etc being compromised. Outside of this, the phantom-casting issue isn't really a problem or inconvenience. Do you think spyware is especially unlikely (I dont really visit risky sites or download shady apps)? Or do you have any recommendations for diagnosing if spyware is the problem?

In reference to the most recent comment being that any advice on how to find spyware hidden in the Samsung note device...would be greatly appreciated....as I am having the same problem??

Spyware is highly unlikely if you've followed basic security guidelines like installing apps only from the Play Store, avoiding shady websites (like porn and gambling), and not clicking on links in bogus browser popups. You could try a reputable security app like Malwarebytes to scan for malware, but keep in mind that these apps aren't perfect, and may miss things or give you false positives (and there are plenty of shady "security" apps that don't do much besides serving up lots of ads).

A factory reset is probably the best step if there's a possibility of malware, as long as you don't automatically reinstall all previous apps (which could presumably include the malicious app).
