Hi,
i read everywhere that the newly released google newsstand replaces google currents. however, both are installed on my phone.... is it normal?

thanks

I see that as well. Google Newsstand still works despite Currents being disabled. My guess is that Google will phase out Currents--maybe with the next Newsstand update, Currents will be deleted. Or maybe with the next system update.

Phasing out. Google has done it with most their apps.

Interesting. I still have Currents on my Nexus 7 (2013), but not on my Nexus 10 or my Nexus 5.

That is because Google Play Newsstand does not replace Currents, it replaces Google Play Magazines.

I think your confusion comes from the added functionality of Currents which will lead to it's phasing out. But GPN has nothing to do with Currents. It is impossible to update two apps into one.

No, Currents has been (for the most part) rolled into Newsstand. Only my Nexus 7 (2013) with Kit Kat still has it for some odd reason. It is gone with the update in my Nexus 10 and was never there in my Nexus 5.
