Why do most people hate TouchWiz?

Re: Why does almost everyone dislike TouchWiz? I'm just really really curious...

I don't hate touch wiz but I do dislike the touch wiz launcher. I've had a few samsung devices now and one of the first things I do is get another launcher. I've always felt it was slow.

Re: Why do people dislike TouchWiz?

Why is everyone hating on touchwiz and samsung?
Because it causes lag. Because it clutters the UI. Because it's UI is ugly. Because you can't uninstall it.

I actually prefer touchwiz over stock android, and other than Samsung's questionable legal history, what's wrong with their phones?
Their phones are awesome. Touchwiz is a skin they use on their phones...it has nothing to do with the hardware. Their hardware is awesome. Their skin is awful.

I get that everyone has their own opinion but I never see anyone really hating on HTC or LG for their new phones
Then you arn't looking hard enough. LG is especially is arguably worse than touchwiz. I endured HTC Sense for 18 months and have grown to despise it.

Those are apparently the best phones, while the Galaxy S5 is just the successor to the S4, nothing special
No one is buying those phones because of the skin. They are buying them because of the hardware. Even Samsung knows this, which is why they will not give you the option to remove touchwiz...they know full well that if they did, most people would do it.

Re: Why do people dislike TouchWiz?

I find TouchWiz pretty ok on my Note 3, the only thing that annoys me is that some operations have lag and this is definatelly not because of hardware but of software...

If you haven't tried a different launcher like Nova, Apex, or even Go you're missing out on a lot of performance and customization improvements. I think of Touchwiz as the entry level and the aforementioned as the destination.

^^^ what kind of performance enhancements do you get with those launchers. Sure they give lots of options. I played with them for weeks then I just went back to the stock CM launcher. I figured simpler means faster, less memory and battery used. It works, it's fine.

Usually a frame rate boost if nothing else. The UI will move smoother and faster on the home screen.

In addition to that they typically offer far more customization features that the default launchers do. There is no harm in trying them...they will not mess with your current launcher. If you uninstall them, your old launcher will still be there (icons, widgets, everything...even their original positions) exactly as you left it.

If it works for you that's all that matters. Simpler isn't always faster, and isn't always less resource intensive.

Some people say they see lag on the S5 and Note 3, etc. What many of them are actually saying is that they see lag with Touchwiz. With Nova or another high - performance launcher that issue vaporizes...to simplify (I'm not one to pontificate). If you're happy with the look, feel, and performance of Touchwiz leave it...why mess with success?

TouchWiz is one of the heaviest (if not THE heaviest) skins around. So much so, it is like a new ROM. It's just so thick and cloying.

It's like pouring so much syrup on your pancakes that, not only can you not taste the pancake under all that goop, every fork full you try to take sees the pancake crumble away under the weight of the syrup.

It's just too much, IMHO.

LOL!

I had HTC Sense for 18 months. I used it in depth. I have grown to hate it almost as much as Touchwiz. Vanilla Android is where it's at.

I don't know, personally I feel Sense is the best designed version out there. Touchwiz is too over the top, and stock is too boring and plain. Hopefully L/LMP will change that.

It is.

Thats why I hate skins. Sense is as good as it gets, and sense is still awful. The wheel doesn't need to be re-invented. Skins are superfluous on modern Android.

It's a blank canvas that you can paint your own stuff on. Touchwiz and Sense make your decisions for you. And if you don't like it? Too bad...you can't uninstall them.

I don't mind it. Maybe it's not perfect but I've never had a major problem with it. It certainly doesn't make me want to make sure my next phone isn't a Samsung.

Cheers

What's so bad with TouchWiz?

I've read for years now how people hate TouchWiz. What's so terrible about it? It does everything I need in Android; widgets, app drawer, notification pull down and the ability to download apps from the Play Store. I also don't think it looks too terrible. Am I the only one who actually doesn't mind it?

Nope. I think it's fine. I guess I don't know what I don't know, but there's nothing on my S5 that I want to change (yet).

It's laggy. It's ugly. It's bloated and cluttered. And you can't uninstall it.

So does every other Android phone. Touchwiz is not an asset...it makes the experience worse.

The Galaxy S5 has significantly more RAM, and a faster processor than the Nexus 5. So why is the Nexus 5 UI faster?

This may not matter to you, but it does to a lot of people. The S5 costs almost twice as much as the Nexus 5, and is half a year newer with better hardware. So people are understandably upset to see that a cheaper and older phone with worse hardware has a faster UI.

More RAM than the Nexus 5? They both have 2GB...
