Why do most people hate TouchWiz?

For me its a few reasons. First are the looks. I dont care for squared off icons and a cartoonish color scheme. Some people do but that's not for me.
Second is that it doesn't flow as well as some other OEM skins. For example with the HTC one changing from front to back facing cameras is just a quick swipe while it requires you to press an icon in touchwiz. Some people think having to touch an icon isn't an issue, but its so much easer to use a phone one handed when you can swipe through sections of built in apps.
Third and lastly Samsung adds a bunch of features to touchwiz. This is great, but most of you won't use 99% of them so they just hang out cluttering up the phone. That's why the 16gb s4 has only 8gb of storage. To add to that the features they so highly advertise like airview don't work well and only work on the stock Samsung apps and flip board.

6 million Galaxy S4s have sold in a few weeks. Obviously only a few people hate touchwiz. Mostly those who have certain other phones. It is easy to get a distorted view of what the phone buying public really wants by reading posts in an online forum. 6 million S4s and well over 10 million S3s sold with Samsung stock software tells you all you need to know about the so called hate for touchwiz.

Android is way too plain and stock apps suck compared to iOS stock apps

So you are saying stock ios apps are better than stock Android apps? Like maps, email etc etc?

Please give us examples.... Maybe I am missing something.

It's not like they are buying it for touchwiz... They buy because of ads ads ads!

Think iOS apps are far more polished than stock JB apps. coming from an iPhone to Nexus 4 I was shocked how bad the stock phone, camera and messages apps/functionality were. Even the GMail and Maps were nicer in iOS, something that totally perplexes me.

I like the TW features. It's almost like Google expects you to use 3rd-party apps, so they don't put a ton of effort into stock Android apps.

For me, I don't mind the touchwiz UI, it is the performance issues I dont like. I would gladly take the nexus s4 over stock touchwiz just for the performance boost.

Duh. "Stock" Android is the best thing ever and OEMs shouldn't be allowed to customize an open source OS.

+1 for TouchWiz here, even for my tablet. I had two HTC and then a SGS3, now there is no way Im going back to HTC.

I posted on the other thread I'm not a fan of pure android. Then again I never knew about Launchers like Nova when I had my Google nexus.

I don't mind Touchwiz (or Sense) but Nova is my favorite so at the end does it really make a difference?

I've never hated TW . I just prefer plain Android. I mean the S4 lags from all their extras...so if your just going to turn them off. I would just as soon not have them. Engadget had a pretty funny podcast where they proceeded to describe all the measures that need to be taken to turn things off.

I think the worst developer on iOS is Apple themselves when it comes to apps. I cant think of a app they make that isnt better than that of a 3rd party. Example..... would you rather have Gmail on their (Apple's own) email app or a 3rd party's? Apple's map app or Google's map app? Apple's Podcast app is a joke compared to other's available by 3rd parties.

If you want pretty... fine, but dont equate pretty looking to polished. The weakest app dev on iOS is Apple themselves. I have used every iPhone thru the 5, and I replaced every native iOS app with a 3rd party's that worked a ton better IMO.

Massive Marketing as a reason for success of the Galaxy S3 and S4 is a pretty tired old canard. Microsoft is advertising the crap out of the Surface. I don't see them flying off the shelves. To believe marketing will overcome a poor product is naive. My Big Fat Greek Wedding and some other films became super hits not because of massive ad campaigns but because those who liked it told their friends about the film. Some of the biggest film turkeys of all time had massive marketing campaigns.

I doubt if the vast majority of buyers are going to purchase the S4 or avoid it because of Touchwiz. But to listen to some other phone owners and fans on this site you would think Touchwiz would turn Medusa into stone if she looked at it. I don't see or hear of anyone returning the S3 or S4 because of Touchwiz (except for the other phone fanatics on this site, and it burns their eyes so much I doubt they would buy the phone in the first place). Again with millions of S3s and S4s sold there is no "hate" for Touchwiz. This is just another "Oh yeah, my phone is better because ______________" tool used by S4 detractors. Just like to detractors' argument that the phone build quality is cheap. Well then, millions of S3 and S4 owners must have nerve damage in their hands that prevents them from feeling the phone's cheap plastic. It goes on and on.

I came from HTC to Samsung Note 2 and haven't minded Touchwiz at all. I'm still stock on it.

I look at bloat as APPs that are added by the manufactures and the phone companies. You can't uninstall bloatware unless you are rooted. If you need to know what rooted means do a Google search.
I don't feel software features like smart scroll are bloat since they can be turned of and once off will have no impact on you phones performance.

You can disable carrier specific & Samsung bloatware without being rooted. This will give a very noticable increase in overall speed as well. See instructions here:

Touch Wiz is fine for the most part. Its just really ugly, especially in its latest incarnation. Do you see the picture samsung uses for a contact without a photo? That right there pretty much sums it up. How about the colors in the dial screen? It looks like Miami Vice on mushrooms. FUGLY.

They are buying it because it's the new "in" thing.. to have a Galaxy phone, like in 2008 it was the "in" thing to have an iPhone.

But this doesn't indicated whether they dislike touch whiz or the product. Yes, marketing gets people to buy but what's keeps them satisfied (and coming back) is that the phone is still a good phone.

If that was true (which it is not) every company with a huge marketing budget would always sell millions of their products. Of course that is ridiculous. Marketing hype will only get you so far. Word of mouth, expert reviews and the quality and durability of the product determine if it is a best seller or not. Ever hear of New Coke? The Coca Cola Company spent several million dollars on marketing the New Coke. It was an abject failure. Honda spent millions of dollars marketing the Honda Accord Hybrid. No sale! The list of huge marketing campaigns that fail goes on and on (Google failed marketing campaigns). To believe that a marketing campaign alone can sell over 16 million phones (S3s and S4s) shows a lack of understanding of consumer buying habits, marketing and business in general.
