Why do so many Fitbit Ionics turn into bricks?

[Android Central Question]

There are over 24 pages of posts in Fitbit user forum about Ionic fails just outside of 1 year warranty. Fitbit's response is to provide a 25% discount on a replacement Ionic rather than fix the issues or recall the product. Now that is an interesting approach to inspiring customer loyalty.
