Why does android sometimes have you try unlock code again, when you weren't trying to unlock it yet?

Every once in a while, I'll push the power button to make sure I hadn't missed any notifications. But when I do this, it is counting down a timer until I can try again, despite the fact that I hadn't tried at all yet to unlock it. Its an older device , so no voice unlock or thumb print or double tap or any other easily accidentally triggered methods going on. I use the pattern security.

It's not very often or a huge issue, but it does get me curious the odd time it does happen... Has this happened with anyone else?

Thanks

I expect that it has, but what phone in your case?

Im only noticing this reply now... but its the samsung, well s2 basically. but its called captivate glide. i suspect this phone is on its way completely out as the play store hack doesnt work anymore (telling build prop youre running a newer version than you are), but im determined to run it into the ground first :P lol

Yes, I'm the same with clothes: I'll only give up on them when a catastrophically huge rip in the rotting fabric occurs.
Since you know about build props etc., you will probably have tried the normal things like factory resets, reflashing firmwares, ditching SD cards, safe modes etc?
