Why does backing up the phone have to be so difficult?

Seriously, backing up this phone via KIES is just a major PITA...period. Just once I'd like to plug the phone into my laptop, open KIES and go to the "Back Up" tab, check off all the items listed and hit "Back Up", and actually have the darn thing be fully backed up!!

As it stands now, no matter what I do, the phone always hangs up on at least one or more of the back up tasks. One time it hangs on the "Miscellaneous" items, other times "Photos" freezes things up. It just NEVER can do it all in one seep in a timely manner. I've tried just checking one box and asking it to just back up that one item (Misc) and it just sits and sits and sits. If I'm lucky I can get it to back up my contacts and maybe my phone logs.

I'm switching to the S 4 next month, no idea if I'll still be in the same boat, but I'd love to at least back up the S 3 fully so I can have a smooth transition to the S 4.

Sorry, but I just had to vent, mainly because I tried backing up things 3 times this week and didn't really get squat saved.

I use Titanium Backup for my backups...but it does require root, of course. You could also use Carbon for a non-root solution.

As far as switching phones goes, you don't want to take much more with you than what's stored in Google's cloud (contacts, etc.). Taking your apps and settings to another phone is troublesome and you're better off redoing it all. Any pictures/videos/etc. are kept on my MicroSD card so those will come with me as well.

I've never even used KIES with my S3 lol

If your rooted then use nandroid backup. I think its the greatest.. press power, home, and volume-up all at the same time. then use the volume button to move up and down and use the power button to make a selection. Go to back up and restore select backup to sd card and that's it.

It doesn't HAVE to be so difficult. Check your premise, root your phone, use titanium and mybackup root, and don't EVER use kies again.
