Why does gmail automatically add contacts to my Samsung Galaxy S5?

I have 2 Gmail accounts. Both have contacts in them. I don't want any of the contacts there in my phone. I've read other forums, but none seem to have the Samsung Galaxy S5. None of the suggestions work for it. Once I add my Gmail account, it automatically syncs the contacts over. Afterwards, I can go into the settings and turn off the contact sync, but by then the contacts have already been added to my phone. It's really p***ing me off. I've had to take out my Gmail account, but now I can't even go to the browser to log in to my Gmail because the phone then prompts me to add the account to the phone. So now I can't even view my emails on my phone... really getting frustrated here. Is there any way to add my email without it syncing everything over??
