Why does internal speakers not work after having earphones plugged in?

It is a HTC one mini s2 which I got a week ago, whenever I plug headphones in and listened to music and unplug the earphones the internal speakers no longer work for anything, not sure what to do?

Welcome to Android Central! Does it start working again after a reboot? The jack is probably defective. Since the phone is new, I'd bring it back for a replacement.
