Why does message failed reappear when restarting my phone?

Message Failed Reappears when Restarting Phone

When I restart my phone I get two separate messages that outboard emails that I sent failed. The thing is, those two (Verizon) email accounts were deleted a couple of months ago. If it tap on the messages I just get a blank email screen that just has a blank red border at the top. I can "swipe" them away and I won't hear from them again until the next time I restart the phone.

Any ideas?

Clear the email app's cache (in Application manager).
