Even i hve the same issue. i just replaced the the lcd screen because of water . After reading all these even i wanted to hard reset. but mine is arooted device. so i am a bit afraid to do it. Will the lg people take the rooted one and help me. may be for free

Hello everyone, i have bought the LG G3 F400L (Korean version) from fastcardtech.com for around 130$ (refurbished). It had the fade out problem out of the box. I was skeptical to try out if it would work with the paper trick, but finally i have done it.

1. Carefully disassembled the phone.


2. folded a piece of paper 2x and carefully putit onto the camera connector.


3. Reassembled it all with great care. Run app updates in the background, set brightness to 100%, and started the stress test.


I know this might just be temp fix, until the paper flattens out and becomes loose, but so far so good.
I also heard people were applying thermal paste to the cpu, and it also worked wonders for keeping phone cooled well.
I would consider mobo reflow as last resort (i'm afraid of dealing with those small ribbon connectors... they are so fragile...)

Another question. Has anyone been able to gain root access for this version? The exact one is: F400L30h (software version) runing on Android 6.0.
I have tried all the methods: iRoot, KingRoot, via adb, via flashtool, framaroot (later I have discovered it works only for Kitkat phones). I'm all out of options here... And I badly want to get rid of those U+ service apps, i will never use for sure. Seems LG did hell of a job to patch every exploit known to ppl developing root methods.
This might not be the right place to ask this question, but since I'm here, why not...

My experience: Paper trick worked for about 2 weeks and eventually the problem crept back up. Just finished baking at 325 degrees for 10 minutes and so far so good. As others have mentioned, all the screws are the same size with the exception of the one by the camera, which is just a bit shorter, so look out for that.

Well, my phone was working great... Now back to the same issue :-(

I will struggle along with it again until it is completely unusable, then bake it again.

I will guarantee that LG has lost a customer for sure!
This is so aggravating, and could be so resolved with a recall by LG to fix this issue!!!!

I have an old T-mobile LG G3 I use primarily to record video for my YouTube (amazon reviews). It started the fade to black this morning while watching YouTubes. Pulled the Sim card. Reboot Without the SIM card. Let it connect to WiFi. Oddly enough this seems to have fixed it. I am no longer with T-mobile to get a replacement SIM. However, I have read other threads that in some cases simply replacing the old SIM will alleviate this problem.

Very annoying, I am old and have no money to replace the LG G3.

I am having the same problems as well! Somehow the screen just faded away. I read one of the post which suggested to remove the sim card and somehow it worked! Probably that area of the mother board is faulty.. few weeks ago the phone couldn't detect my SD card as well.. oh well..moving on to Huawei Mate 9..

alright bruvs..LISTEN UP ...whoever has the same problem as it described read this
you gonna fix it without the need to ship to LG or spening money to your service providers
just do this what i tell u
1-make some small folded paper
2-open the lg cover motherboard
3-take the folded paper and put it at camera controller.. its that small space between autolaser and camera
4-close the cover....the paper will push the motherboard and i dont know why but it works
i have only 15 min i did that and im not getting anymore that issue....i will recharge now and hope it will not appear again
i wrote this to help u cus i know your concern about this.. i used to be sad for about 1 month since the problem occured...hope it will not appear anymore.. spread this method so others can know it.. thanks

I registered to thank all that posted but mainly this fellow here that made the issue disappear with a simple fold of paper..

Just fold a small piece of paper, make it 2 centimeters thin and place it between the laser thinggie and the camera lens..

Close the cover and that does it.. thanks bruv!!

Well the Paper thing worked for me, but in an easier way . Being a novice, I just followed below steps:

1. Removed the back cover of my LG G3.

2. Kept a folded piece of paper on top of the sensor on left of camera.

3. Put the cover back on.

Wait for few seconds, no need to restart your phone. Your screen will be working fine after that.

I experienced this one for almost a week. Irritated and frustrated. I can't play anything for a single minute. Asked LG how much is it for the mainboard and they cost me Php13,000 (more or less $200). But right now, I just made my own fix for this.

Downgraded from MM to LL (stock, rooted), installed CTT mod, installed Xceed kernel, underclock CPU to 1497.6MHz, undervolted to -100mHz, undercurrent to -8mA, underclock GPU to 389MHz, turned off Knock On/Off Setting.

For more than a week, I can play AAA+ games like Implosion even while charging without any problems. I just noticed for G3 phones that it easily throttles its CPU to maximum clockspeed (2.6GHz) when it reaches 60degrees of temperature and causes our phones to overheat together with the LCD temperature and makes our screen to flicker.

CTT mod does everything for me. It lowers the temperature that my G3 has.

same problem here my LG G3 is always fading it turn into a dark color, I already tried a "paper trick" it`s work but in a few days my screen is fading again. what am I supposed to do?. help me please!

I went to an S7 Active back in June but recently I had to go back to my G3 as I had water damage. This is in the process of being replaced under warranty which means I had to go back to my G3. I have recently readjusted the Penny I was using in the phone to a new location as I continued to have the flickering. Since readjusting I have had better luck. See the attached photos for the location I have set the penny. The first picture shows where the penny is set and the second shows where the penny puts pressure against.

Thank you so much for this! My G3 was having the fade-to-black issue and this has kept the problem fixed for 2 days straight now... fingers crossed it lasts a while.

One caveat I noticed: the power/volume buttons are a bit more "touchy" than they were before. When I first shoved the penny in there, they were almost unusable but have been working fine after settling for about a day. I guess it deformed something, but in a good way!

You are an absolute legend!!! I wend to many repairers and they all said couldnt be fixed, they played with the screen connecter and all.. i ended up ditching the G3 and buying a G5, now that has the boot loop issue and im sending for warranty repair now (thankfully just still in warranty perirod) but boot loop issue is terrible cant really do anything that im aware of.

So came across your post about the penny, its the only thing that worked for me but im in Australia and had to research a matching coin, so our 5c peice worked perfect!!

im glad i helped you and others but that didnt work for long time ..then i baked it , worked for 5 days then again same **** until i got the blue screen of death.. i bought a new motherboard and i have rooted it and i have installed fulmic rom 7.0. i hope this time lasts more and i dont have again same problem.. i suggest everybody with same problem.. change your motherboard or if u wanna buy new smartphone stay away from LG. used to like them but they are a disgusting company

Same screen flickering issue as everyone else, just started yesterday, almost exactly to the 2 year point of purchase. Won't be buying an LG again.

I had the same issue on my G3 a few months ago. I recently had another issue with my new G3 and decided to take out the logic boards from each phone and baked them evenly at 572°F for about 5 mins with my heat gun (If you are only baking one logic board, I would recommend only heating at this temp for 2-3 mins). Then let the board(s) cool for 10 mins. Result, I fixed both phones!

The issue in my opinion, lies with broken solder joints. Over time, the constant overheating during use and then cooling back down again weakens the solder and will increase the likelihood of a crack. Heating up the logic board to this temperature allows the solder to melt and join back together, cooling down then solidifies the solder like new.

Don't bake the motherboard. That will potentially cause even more issues. The main issue is the RAM chip losing contact with the soc. it is also the chip that (because LG for wahetever reason didnt put thermal pad into the socket meant for the thermal pad) receives the most heat from the soc. This is very easy to fix. Just take something thermally conductive (Alu foil, thermal pad...) and put it on the RAM chip. Preferrably 1mm in thickness. Put it the way so it puts pressure on the RAM in fix the contact with the soc. If you did it right, your phone should work fine again. Confirmed as the issue on two LG G3s, and fixed.
