Why does my LG G3 screen flicker and fades to darkness?

Hi I only signed up to this forum to say my phone is having the same issues. It is so frustrating! It happens nearly every time I go on my phone, and sometimes before I even get a chance to type my pass-code in. It just randomly started the other day, and I had done nothing different to the phone.

A few months back, I replaced the screen myself as something fell on it and cracked it, so I don't think LG would fix it since I've already tampered with it myself. It's been working great since then (apart from the battery always being absolutely rubbish) and now this. I would replace the screen and everything again but I don't get how it could be hardware if it just decides to not work out of the blue.

If people could continue to update the progress on fixing this problem, I'd be very grateful as I have no idea what to do next. Thanks!

I had the same Issue, but was within the 1 yr. I sent it back to LG and they said it was damaged(had a small scratch on screen) and I would have to pay to fix it. I paid $153 for the full refurbished option, they said they replaced the LCD and I just got it back Friday after 3 weeks with them. lo and behold last night it started to do the same thing again, flickers or just turns black... I will be contacting LG again...

I contacted them and they said to send it in again and that it will be flagged so the "higher ups" can make sure its repaired correctly.

My friends G3 got this problem yesterday since an OTA update about Google usability (said him). Don`t know the details. I told him to factory reset but cant`t even finish the first setting wizard after reset. So, a visit to service center I guess. If this was a hardware failure, because almost everyone in this thread had already gone over warranty period like my friend, shame on LG.
Then lucky me to sold my G3 since January 2015.

I've also had this problem with my LG G3 that I've had less than a year. Had to send it back to LG for repiar on, 8/29, didn't get it back until, 9/10/15. Worked fine for approximately one week before it started doing it again. I've contacted them again and they are telling me that I have to send it back in. They are so far refusing to send me a new phone but I will be speaking to a supervisor later today. I should be without a phone for which I'm still making payments for approximately a month. I'm over LG and will neve purchase another LG product again. Customer service has been terrible.

I finally got my phone back for the second time. In addition to the screen issue, I also had issues with bluetooth and the headset jack. So far, so good. The first time I sent it in for repair, none of the issues were fixed when I received my phone back. I spoke with two supervisors in LG's call center, but was unable to escalate any further. They refused to send me a new (or refurbished) phone and I had to send it back in. It's been less than a week since I got it back the second time, so fingers crossed.

I just received my phone back from LG and I was super unhappy with the turnaround time. I sent it off on August 25th, they received and signed for the package on August 31st. I called and called with them giving the same BS answer telling me they were trying to find my phone in the facility. At the end of everything, they finally found my device and got it to a technician on September 9th. It was shipped back to me on September 14th and I received it back on September 18th. I went through 3 RA numbers during that time. I was so mad with the customer service but I was just glad to get my phone back except for one reason. They replaced my LCD screen and I received it with tiny scratches at the top of my screen. I called and told them I was not going to be put through the same wait to get my screen replaced again and they did not want to expedite my process if I sent it back. I was pissed. So now, I'm going to have to contact corporate somehow and use their emailing system. The phone is working fine so far tho with their fix being the LCD screen. I'll update with any further information about their terrible customer service thus far and the state of the phone.

One other thing that brought up red flags...my sticker where the IMEI number is located where the battery sits seemed to be taken off and put back on or a new label was put on. The reason why I know that is because I took pictures of it before I sent it off and the sticker sat differently than the way I received it. Anyone else notice this or know why the sticker could have been tampered with?

So I got my phone back last Friday after they fixed and replaced my camera. Still don't get that. Maybe bad wiring or solder with the camera was causing some short in the screen, or maybe they simply coded the repair status incorrectly and it came up as rear camera? who know?!

It does look like they could had replaced my screen. The glass protector I had on it was gone, but that's not to say they just simply removed it. It did have a film on it but again that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

So far so good. Been using it regularly as I try to get everything restored back to normal. The LG backup (that I didn't think saved) helped a lot.

Still with some of the stories on here and the fact they said they replaced my camera, I'm finally getting to the 'cautiously optimistic' level and hopefully after another week I'll feel pretty good about this repair. I will say again even though I'm 100% sure this was hardware, after some tinkering with deleting stuff and whatnot (coincidence) it went for a couple days with no issues, no fading, no freezing. Before that it was a constant issue once the problem started; couldn't be using the phone for more than a min before it would happen. This is really the only reason I don't feel fully in the clear yet :)

Everything on mine seemed to be in order with my sticker it all looked fine.

Sorry for the trouble you had with CS. I think like anything you can simply get dealt the wrong hand. I only had to communicate with them one time, used the online chat function.

I received my RA on Aug 27th but didn't send it out right away (because the issue stopped for a couple of days). They received it on Sept 4th which was the Fri before the Labor day holiday. So it didn't get a repair status until that Tues or Wed, but they repaired it and sent it along on the 10th. My 2 day delay was due to the package requiring a signature mid-day when no one was home, so I had it rerouted to the nearest fedex store for pickup.

Hope you have better luck going thru corporate.

I'm glad your phone is doing well so far and that you had a much better experience than I did. I did contact LG through email (not corporate, least not yet) and they told me they could not escalate my problem through them and that I needed to call in again to talk to a supervisor. So I called and after some lousy customer service (unsure what he could do for me or how long it would take to get an approval to get my shipment expedited, etc) and a few words from a frustrated customer (no foul language was used or personal attacks) the Supervisor straight up hung up on me. It took every ounce of energy from me to not call back and cuss anyone that I got on the phone out. I called back, got a different supervisor where he put in a request for expedited shipping.

Now, I am waiting to see if the expedited shipping gets approved. If it doesn't, I will have to somehow contact corporate.

By the way, I learned that once you get to a supervisor at the customer service number, you are at the end of the line, no one else can try to help you and they supposedly have no number they can direct you to. Pretty terrible.

Had the exact same issue (in fact this thread helped me find out LG had a 15 month warranty, Verizon is only 12 months and my phone was around 13 months old). Long story short, sent it back to LG end of August, got it back after 2-3 weeks. Seemed to be new screen and case (had plastic on the screen and around all 4 edges. Same IMEI number, but like someone else said it almost looked like the sticker was removed and put back on. Anyways, they said they replaced the "Power Management IC (PMIC)" and there was no charge. Got the phone back, worked great for 1 day, next day the exact same issue started. Randomly at first, then much more often.

Called back LG support to see if they could just send me a new phone, said no I had to send it back. So they just received the phone yesterday, waiting to hear what happens!

I tell y'all all one thing it won't get fixed and will have to get a new phone ....sad I really like LG G3 did everything possible even sent it to LG to get fixed....waited a long time just got it back yesturday and guess what.....Started doing it again just not as bad only goes black sometimes ...I'm mad and to the point I may join Apple which I never have any problems with Apple products .....I mean LG supposedly fixed my phone just for it to do the same thing again ....I'm through!

Sucks man I just got my phone back too same thing happens again think I'm done with LG

So just spoke to LG, this time they fixed the Power AMP IC (first time was Power Management IC). Said they're shipping it back today, hoping to get overnightted but we'll see

Just reporting back in. So I've had it back almost 2 weeks now and still good. I'm still baffled by them replacing the camera for this screen issue (freeze, fade to black). I originally would had felt better if they told me they fixed the Power AMP IC, or Power Management IC, but now I guess i'm not so sure. Really sucks that a few of you are going through this, and to tack on really bad CS adds insult to injury.

Has made me consider what my next phone will be. Never had issues with Samsung (used my old SIII while this was away), just bummed they went to a non-replaceable battery and no memory card slot. G3 was my break from the norm, and overall I really like it. Wife has not had any issues with her iPhones but I'm not at that point yet ;P

Yea it's been frustrating to say the least. Glad to see yours has been good so far, crossing my fingers for mine. I'm waiting on CS to call me back to see if they got expedited shipping approved!

Just got it back yesterday, this time it was repaired pretty quickly about a week and a half and i had it back. They said they repaired the flash memory so i will see if that does it, will check back in a week or so if it doesn't do it anymore. Hoping to not have to ship it in a third time.

Hey gents, so my G3 started having this issue a little over 2 months ago, and thanks to this thread I decided to send it in for a repair attempt. LG gave me the same BS I'm seeing from a lot of you, which is "give it to us, we'll fix it", only to receive it back (after a full month) with the same problem starting up on day one.

Having noticed that many of you are still having the problem after a second repair attempt. I'm going to forgo sending it in again, and just get a new phone. My problem is that I've decided I'll likely get a new nexus, but the more affordable version is made by LG, so I'm wondering if I'll get a similar problem halfway through its life, and if I should just fork over a higher amount for the 6P instead.

Good luck getting it approved. They told me they were going to call me within 48 hours to see if it got approved and nada. I had to call and waited 72 hours and found out that the expedited shipping was denied, so I gave their customer service department the finger and now trying to deal with Corporate. This is some of the worst customer service I have ever received. At least expedite my second repair because you scratched my phone's screen which you supposedly replaced.

When my screen is black, I plug into my pc and delete downloads and dcim files. I discovered this after days of frustration. Works every time.
Note: I then plug in the charger until the screen images come back.
