Why does my phone "stay awake" all night long killing battery?

battery - android os - stay awake 8 Hours

Is what i see in the morning after I have charged to 100% the night before, now 8 hours later it is 50%, it has been in airplane mode this entire time...

What the heck?

Is there a button to push that makes the phone NOT stay awake all night long?

Can you post screenshots of the battery stats and the graph, please?

they arent there now as new stats are there, i maybe could do it tomorrow morning, what it does say is stay awak 8 hrs, which obviously is what is the problem i just dont know if there is a way to make it not stay awake, thanks, will try and get that pic later

if i knew what white screen meant i might be able to figure out how to change that?

cant find "white screen" anywhere, so i guess that is not helpful

Is there a stay awake option, somewhere on my phone, that I can UNcheck?

seems the s4 or s3 did have that, does the s5 NOT have the option to turn on or off stay awake?

pulled battery for 30 seconds and put it back in, this morning it had 96% left after sitting all night and the stay awake message was gone, idle or something is what it said

Also if you enabled developer options there is a box you have to check that says something along the lines of phone will never sleep while plugged in. I'd check that first.

As I understand it, developer options is something you could access in prior versions, but the s5 you cant without setting it up, it is not in my menu...i did take the battery out for a minute and put it back and now i am back to normal

Why would you charge your phone just to take it off while you are sleeping? Most people charge their phone while they sleep them have a full charge when they get up.

It might just be an old wives tale but I've always been concerned that leaving it on the charger after the phone is fully charged will wear out the battery faster. The thing charges so fast that I just plug it in an hour or two before I go to bed and it only loses 5% max while I sleep.

If u really want amazing battery life while u sleep put the phone in ultra power saving mode, shuts down everything in the background that goes crazy at night. So your apps updating, email synching, synch services, back ups, game notifications etc is all stopped. In my test on this mode I may lose 1% over night and that is it.

I never charge my phone while I sleep, I always top it off before I go to bed. I'm not sure why I do that, I guess I'm just so used to that method

Every other Android phone I've ever had works by tapping on the Build Number 7 times under About Phone.
