Why does new phones come with froyo and not gingerbread? Is there something wrong with gingerbread? I know most phones got the updates but i would rely love to have gingerbread 2.3.4 for my Samsung droid charge. If Samsung don't release the update can the developers provide us with one? I know on the droidx they said they couldn't make the custom gingerbread Rom until the leaked version is released or the update from version is released. I dont know if that is how it goes with Samsung phones or not. I hope we get the update soon i always like to have latest.

well we all hope that this phone will be different because it has the droid branding but if not I would not expect any update soon with samsung as they are usually last to the table with updates. I think the fascinate JUST got froyo. Think about that, they just got froyo as everyone else is starting to get gingerbread

Samsung is already working on Gingerbread, I've been hearing we could see it late summer. I don't expect this will be like the Fascinate, Samsung has more experience now, they have alot of reputation riding on this phone, and its got Droid branding. With Google's new policy, I expect we'll even see an official version of ICS one day.

When I had my BB 9650 VZ was always last with updates. The story I heard was RIM would release the OS to the carriers and it was up to the carriers to release it. Is it different in the Droid World?

ya basically it is the same, verizon gets it last and has to approve it and add their bloat to it, with droid phones the phone mfg gets to add their bloat and stuff on it before vzw get it though

I can't figure it out myself. Samsung has it on the Nexus for 5 months already don't get it at all.

Don't get me wrong, I want GB on the phone. But honestly, Gingerbread is not nearly as big an update from Froyo as Froyo was from Eclair. IMO froyo is a great build. I've spent a lot of time with Gingerbread on the Nexus S and it's really not much different in general.

From a user standpoint, the coolest things in GB is the screen off animation, slightly improved text selection and I guess video chat in Gtalk if you care about that (It's not a feature I use, but I understand why people want it). Anyway, we'll get it sooner or later.. by that time I'm sure we'll all be pining for ice cream sandwich.

IIRC Then nexus S is built by samsung for Google to google's specs. Just like the G1 was Googles phone. That is the reason for Gingerbread.

Hope that helps. But you can still shake your head at new releases with Froyo. The only thing I can come up with is the MFG's have been working the bugs out of there stuff with FROYO it runs smooth etc so they will let it run its course until they get their crap running smooth on GB.

Those are my thoughts exactly, this phone is full of so much new technology and has been in development for so long that its much more stable in FroYo than GB at this point. My guess is we'll see it in the next few months, once Verizon has improved LTE stability, and Samsung has been able to work out a few more kinks. I'd love to have GB as much as the next guy, but I'm glad they released a more stable device, as I can only imagine the problems if they had pushed up GB for launch before it was stable.
