Why does the heart rate sensor light flash when sensors on the front are covered or it's very dark.

It has come to my attention that a red light under the flash has repeatedly flashed on whenever I turn my phone on from sleep mode in a dark room, or when the front sensors are covered. I am wondering if there is a fix for this?

currently using the s6 edge, previously had an s6 but didn't experience this problem.

It is to prevent the screen from turning on in pocket/purse. You can turn off this feature from Settings--> Display-->"Keep Screen turned off".
