Why Does The Samsung S8 have less PPI than S6

PPI is a function of resolution and screen size. the screen size for the S6 is 5.1 inches and 5.8 for the S8. at the same resolution the PPI for the S6 would be higher because the screen size is smaller.

I understand that they put the extra pixels in a small package included in the box. Most people didn't realize what they were and just tossed them. If you tear the package open and sprinkle them on the phone the pixel density will increase.

+1

So I did some research on the S8 because my 2-year contract is about over for my S6. Apparently, the S6's resolution is 2560x1440 at approximately 577 pixels/in. The S8's resolution is 2960x1440. Yes, there are a few hundred more pixels in height, but this is only 570 pixels/in. Someone please explain to me how this phone is actually worse than the phone that came over 2 years before it... There must be something I'm missing... As far as I know, both support 4k 30 fps/1080p 60 fps video as well, so I'm really confused as to what is better about the S8.

It is 7PPI. Pixels aren't everything though, the new screens usually look better and consume less power. With that being said, if you think the screen is the one and only thing that makes the s8 worse than the s6, well then these forums won't help change your decision.
reasons s8> s6
1. ram
2. processor
3. camera
4. Water resistance
5. Larger screen in smaller footprint
6. larger battery
7. More ram

PPI barely mean anything of importance, you look at the resolution, not the PPI. A 1440p 5 Inch phone will have a higher PPI count than a 5.8 inch phone, but the resolution is the same. NO difference as long as the content and image rendered is also 1440p.

Surprise, a 4K 65 inch TV only has 68PPI. Yes, only 68 PPI. So don't focus on the PPI count as they will ALWAYS get smaller as the display increases in size, focus on the resolution. The resolution between the GS6 and the GS8 is the same, except for the slightly different aspect ratio of 2560x1440 16x9 in the GS6, while the GS8 has a resolution of 2960x1440 for the aspect ratio of 18.5x9.

Worse is a relative term. I doubt you, or anyone else, could tell the difference. It's kinda like saying the new Mustang can only go 240 miles per hour when the 8 year old one could go 250 miles per hour. If you're driving on the freeway it doesn't matter. I don't get folks that pay for specs. Just look at the screen. Is it good for you? If so, what do the PPI matter?

Re: Why Does The Samsung Galaxy S8 Suck?

Wait, I'm confused, how did OP come to the conclusion that S8 Sucks? Because of 577 vs 570 Pixel density? OMG shoot me and get it over with.

I would love for someone to actually show me how they can tell the difference between 577 and 570 pixel density. This has got to be the craziest post I have ever seen. I guess he has Superman super vision. The screen is 5.7' what do you want?
