why does verizon choose to be so silent?

Can we please stop with this? It's very clear they were shooting for an earlier launch date and it didn't happen. Because their press release only specific end of the year doesn't mean the launch wasn't delayed. Please - enough.

No enough of lies like the above.

It is laughable for anyone to demand an apology. VZW never gave a specific date.

You are confusing rumors with facts.

For the fact that they let the media let this release get out of control. It is up to them to supplement the pipeline with information. An official announcement weekly would quell all this forum talk and stop idiots from posting fake screenshots to rumored dates. It IS THEIR fault the launch has gone this way with rumors floating everywhere.

LOL, right. They control people like P3.

Simply pathetic. People are acting like a child throwing a tantrum. I want, I demand, your marketing stinks. Or even better, I'm owed an apology and an explanation. You told me you were going to release the Nexus by the end of the year but there is still a month to go, apologize to me now for that!

The hype has clearly confused some people.

VZW is a private company. If you don't like how they conduct their business, stop giving them money and go to another company.

Because the United States isn't the only part of the world that matters. As far as I know the phone is already released in the UK.

Also the year isn't over so yeah Verizon comment still stands. At least you know the phone is coming

I didn't demand an apology. A variety of leaks pegged the release for early November, even late October. If you really think VZW was planning on a December 8th release date since Day 1, I just don't know what to tell you. Literally everything we know points to the contrary, rumor or not.

You can choose to look at their press release in a vacuum, or you can take into account everything else we have seen and heard. I implore you...choose logic.

I'm not saying they control anyone, but OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS would fill the pipeline so people like p3 wouldn't have to scratch and claw for ever single piece of information (some of it false). VZW only has themselves to blame. I'm not whining or complaining, I will voice my opinion with my purchases (or lack of purchases). An apology by VZW stating they hoped the phone would be out there earlier as well but due to technical difficulties and wanting to assure the best user experience delayed the launch WOULD HELP THEIR CAUSE. They don't need to do anything, they are a multi million dollar corp, but sending an apology to the community WOULD BE A GOOD THING, to help calm the users who aren't as patient and understanding of VZW as you.

It really is a losing battle for them. On the one hand you have all kinds of people screaming to release the phone and on the other hand you have a whole new group of people that are going to be complaining when the phone IS released that is was released to soon and it was not ready.
Thunderbolt and xoom are just a couple examples that come to mind right off the bat.

It might make you and some feel better. But, ultimately would be meaningless. The fact of the matter is nobody who is interested in this phone will be satisfied until it is released.

That may be true we wont be satisfied til release, but I do not doubt that I am the only customer who has contemplated switching because of lack of official word. I would be MUCH LESS LIKELY to have those feelings if VZW actually came out with an official announcement of some sorts (i.e. phone is delayed, phone is getting the sexy treatment, we are busy having orgies in the boardroom, etc). At the end of the day if it saves VZW customers it isn't meaningless, especially for them.

They don't control him but they control the information going to him. So, if they wanted to shut him up (or Panda) they could. Easy.

I think your point about VZW being a private company further reinforces the fact that customers can demand all that they want. They may or may not get it, but they're more than welcome to demand it. Your point about taking your money elsewhere is how you punish the company, but isn't a demand.

I don't think it's throwing a tantrum to point out that releasing a phone two weeks before Christmas (if we're lucky) is not exactly the ideal marketing strategy, and probably not what Verizon originally intended. Releasing it in the retailing dead zone after Christmas would be an even worse business strategy.

I don't want an apology, I don't even particularly want an explanation. I would like a release date and, eventually, a new GNex to play around with.

Uhg, I'm tired of seeing all these phone releases.

In the time that the GN was announced from Google, The RAZR and Rezound were announced with dates, shipped and are now being sold. Now we have the Incredible II, which was just announced with yet again, dates. After that, Droid 4 anyone?

This just goes to show something is up with the GN or there is a clear agenda on how Verizon wants to handle it. How disappointing.

If there were problems with the phone they are ironing out they can't say that. That's a terrible business practice. It would hurt stock and scare average consumers away.

If they were to come out and say "oh we found a little bug and its no biggy just trying to get it all ironed out" then a Verizon employee would come out and say "the problem is massive blah blah blah" or the rumor mill would start turning and the webpages would start guessing. Then the stocks would drop and the average customer would run away again.

Think of it like an argument with your significant other....you could scream back and say things you'll regret. But sometimes its just better not to say anything at all....

Its better to piss off a couple geeks (us) vs the potential disaster of saying something.

All this is under the assumption there is a bug....I don't think one way or the other but if it were the case Verizon wouldn't come out and say that...

Also the announcement. It was most likely early to deter iPhone 4s sales....not to upset android users...

Possibly, I've seen a couple users post they held off on iphone to see the nexus.

VZW doesn't have to state what their reasoning is, I think my last post makes that clear:

"I would be MUCH LESS LIKELY to have those feelings if VZW actually came out with an official announcement of some sorts (i.e. phone is delayed, phone is getting the sexy treatment, we are busy having orgies in the boardroom, etc)"

There are plenty of ways to pass off the information about an upcoming product being delayed, it isn't the first time it has happened and it won't be the last....IT HAS HAPPENED TO JUST ABOUT EVERY COMPANY EVER IN EXISTENCE!!!! Not every company handles it the same way and it is my opinion that VZW handled it in one of the worst ways I've seen.

One thing the RAZR and Rezound have that the GN doesn't... Verizon's bloatware. They have the potential to sell their services that are included with these phones. They have expectations for these phones in a contract somewhere and a business model for these releases. I'm sure it's a even dose of wanting to make sure the phone is ready to go and trying to meet expectations that were set for the two phones they are currently pushing.

Exactly; that's why VZW makes more money on the RAZR and the Rezound, compared to the GN (and the iPhone 4S; hence why VZW is relying on Apple to advertise the phone, and is instead pushing its more profitable devices.)

Anyways, @whomever said my theory was a conspiracy: no. This has happened before.
