why does verizon choose to be so silent?

Are there any specifics on that?

My guess would be (and this is totally unsubstantiated - I'm not trying to sell this as fact) that VZW led Samsung/Google to believe a November launch would happen for this phone. I'm sure Samsung/Google thought it would come out as part of the "big 3" (HTC, Moto, Samsung) and consumers would get to choose between the three.

But, surprise, surprise, Verizon found reasons to delay and got to work a whole "we only said November if the device was fully compatible" angle.

Better specs don't necessarily mean better phones. Or maybe the Bionic was the master of all Droids.

You're implying I said better specs meant better quality phones. You're also implying I made a decision either way.
I simply wrote the newer factors of HTC's newer phone to disprove that it was the "same old."

One reason they are not giving a date and another why they are not saying anything (if it is true about testing it and finding problems).

1. No reason to give a date if it is not 100%. Lets say they gave a date and it got passed with no release, **** is already bad enough and that would just make it worse.

2. If it didn't pass the testing. They are not going to come out and say the phone is having problems! They want to sell them as soon as they hit the stores (or online) and don't want people second guessing about buying a phone with problems. Keep in mind the general public will not hear about the problems and rumors we are hearing, and there is more general public then there is of us!

So they shouldn't have announced and unveiled the thing if it was so far from ready that they couldn't give a date. Period.

Agree. You don't announce something a month ahead if it is not ready at that time.

This whole thing has been such a giant marketing fail from all parties involved. There's no excusing it. Look, I'm not really trying to assign blame or be an Apple fanboy (I'm not), but Apple has this thing down to a science. When Apple announces a product, it's ready to order within days, if not immediately. That's why they sell zillions of something overnight that isn't particularly special when looked at objectively.

Announcing a new phone--and more importantly, a major new Android OS--that won't be available for MONTHS is just asinine. I don't care who's specifically at fault. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that Google, Samsung and VZW are *all* at fault for this.

In some ways, VZW's actions are the most excusable, since they make money regardless of which phone gets bought. Why should they care? Samsung and Google should not have tied their promotional and product-release wagon so thoroughly to such a disinterested partner. Maybe it's tougher for them to command phone releases the way Apple does, but they need to find a way if they want to sell an "iPhone killer" and grab that kind of customer loyalty from the general public.

To be fair, I don't know if Verizon was "disinterested". I mean, they passed on the very popular SII specifically to get an "even better Samsung phone" (the Nexus). I have a hard time believing they were "disinterested" in the Nexus to begin with, otherwise, why would they have passed on the SII to get the Nexus?

As far as the topic goes, I think it boils down to the fact that we really don't know what the hold up is. All we have are rumors and speculation, but nothing concrete. It seems as though the software and the hardware are fine (as the device launched outside of the US, already). So, Google and Samsung have seemingly done their part. It looks like it's up to Verizon, now, to actually release it.

Sure, I'd love for them to be more informative about the process, but I suppose it depends on what the hold up is. If they are, indeed, holding the phone up due to either trying to get a couple "bloatware" apps on it, or just because they want to space out the release so the Razr and Rezound sell better, I don't expect them to tell us that... That'd be kinda silly, yanno?

Yeah, I probably overstated things a bit, there. However, it's obvious that Verizon is less interested than Google and Samsung, otherwise the darned thing would be available already. They just don't seem very interested in selling this phone, if you ask me.

It would be interesting to know if the GNex was still a bug-ridden mess back in October. The UK release was dimmed somewhat by that volume control bug, which is hardly a minor matter if you live in an area with only intermittent 3G service. I know that the different radios and network standards for the Verizon release make that same glitch less likely to show up on this side of the pond, but it does make you wonder what other problems are lurking on the LTE version. Nobody's done a review of the Verizon version yet, so we don't have any way of knowing.

they never announced it tho.. google and samsung did..

Verizon did have a press release that Friday saying it'd be out "later this year" due to all the rumors floating around about them not carrying it but they've been pretty mum since then.

Yea so somewhere in there you would think the 3 companies would have had some sort of a plan before having a press conference broadcast on Youtube. If it was going to be a December release, why not wait? Why do it in early October?

Exactly. Also, remember the original unveiling was to be done in the US on October 11th. Why announce ICS and the GN so damn early if it wasn't going to be available for another, almost 2 months?

I've been reading the Thunderbolt forums and, it was almost identical to the way we are now.

I think the silence up to this date insures we're not getting it this week whatsoever. On to waiting for next week. For those of you thinking of renting a phone until the release, the Rezound is the clear choice. Even if you don't like Sense.

In the full slashgear review vince's phone has both VZW apps in the app tray, so there is that..

That's kind of odd, because he tested the HSPA+ version. I didn't see those apps in any of the pictures, but maybe I just missed them.

Not sure why they are choosing to do so, I can say even a simple apology about the delay in release for whatever internal reasons would be acceptable...to hear nothing is worse than hearing they are having issues and need a couple more weeks.

A simple apology for what? They said the phone will be released by the end of the year. Did I miss New Year?

I only noticed Verizon Video, not the two that have been mentioned before (My Verizon and VzW Backup Assistant)

uh verizon had absolutely no affiliation with the announcement what-so-ever.

the phone isnt exclusive to verizon.. infact this announcement was done in like hong kong.. where verizon doesnt even exist..

like I said afterwards verizon came out and said they would have it before the end of the year.. they didnt promise weekly updates.. and theirs still over a month left in the year.

anyone acting as if they were part of the announcement/unveiling is lying to themselves.

Can we please stop with this? It's very clear they were shooting for an earlier launch date and it didn't happen. Because their press release only specific end of the year doesn't mean the launch wasn't delayed. Please - enough.

For the fact that they let the media let this release get out of control. It is up to them to supplement the pipeline with information. An official announcement weekly would quell all this forum talk and stop idiots from posting fake screenshots to rumored dates. It IS THEIR fault the launch has gone this way with rumors floating everywhere.
