Why doesnt my PC reccognise my phone?

attempting to share music from my pc to my phone. PC is a Gateway NE56R41U using Windows 10, The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4. I plug my sync cord in and immediately get a message stating that my pc does not reccognise the devise. Note: My wive has the identical phone, which is set up exactly as mine is, and her's works just fine. So, what is wrong?

Welcome to Android Central! First, try a different cable. If the same thing happens, swipe down the notification panel and see if there is a USB icon. If so, tap it and make sure MTP is selected.

Also, use a can of compressed air to blow out the microUSB port, in case there's any debris in there.
