Why don't I receive notifications that I have a voicemail message and it doesn't show in missed calls?

No notification that I have a voicemail message and it doesn't show in Calls Missed

My friend left me a voice message and I never saw the notification. I had to call my Voice mail and I heard it. I checked for missed calls and nothing, I check for received calls and nothing.

I don't like having to call my voice mail to see if I have messages.

How does this get fixed?

Straight carrier voicemail, not Google voice?

Should be a place to define notifications in your Call settings.

I also, with AT&T, have on one or two occasions had to phone them to make sure voice mail was properly set up on their end.
