Android Central Question

The lamp still works. The torch/light comes on when recording. The flash and all its functions work fine. But today the torch/light switches off immediately when teh camera comes when I want to use it for getting photo lighting right. I do not want to automatically put on the flash or use the flash prelight function right - when the camera uses it to set exposure. I would like a function I had before back please.
Thanks

Only one app can control the flash at a time.
Each app will use the flash as it wants to.

In general, the camera app will turn on the flash only for the short time needed by the camera.
To use the flash as a modeling light, you will need to use a "flashlight" app during the setup of the scene.

Thanks for you reply Joe. Thing is, both torch and camera worked simultaneously on Monday. On Tuesday they didn't. I've had no issue with torch being on while the camera app is open until then. I turned on the torch as usual to so I could see the object clearly and just as I opened the camera app the torch flickered and went off. and I get the "can't turn on torch. Camera light being used by other app" message.

My old Samsung Galaxy J7's torch still works with the camera app open. So why would this one stop?

Do you have different flash settings for the two cameras?

No. Just the one camera app that came built in this phone. And the regular 3 options - no flash, automatic flash, flash on. Same as with my old Samsung Galaxy J7

But which setting are you using on each phone? For example, does one have the flash on and one the flash off?

Oh I see what you're asking now. My bad
Regardless of which setting I use on the J7, the torch app always comes on if I open it.
On the S8, regardless which flash setting I put it on, the torch goes off. But that's what's so weird. I never had the problem till the other day. I had the same functionality as the J7

This sounds like a case where you were taking advantage of a software bug then the bug got fixed.

The weird part here is that it sounds like you have not updated any software lately.

Hmmm, I'd go with that if my Galaxy J7 wasn't still providing both light and flash at the same time with running camer app and it has done for 18 months right up to and beyond my contract renewal. Seems weird and a little annoying. The torch on with the camera is really helpful.
