Why have a front facing camera?

I have no idea if I will like the hole punch design or not. I guess I need to see it in person but I'm sure I will just pre-order the phone on 2/20 to have on 3/8. People say it will interfere with notifications or watching videos so I don't know I'll have to wait and see but I still want the phone.

Thinking about it I haven't seen a laptop or tablet in years without a front facing camera either. Even the dirt cheap Atom powered windows devices had them, I think it's just something consumers expect at this point so they can video chat.

Exactly

These cameras are useful mirrors too, ladies can check their makeup, or make sure no food is stuck in their teeth and all the other things you can use a mirror for....

I would love to buy a phone without a front facing camera as I don't like the concept of selfies. I am fine with just one back camera that enables me to take clear and crisp photos with great detail.

And it's not only about selfies, more and more people use the front camera for video calls, being with friends, relatives or even business. As stated above, a phone without a front camera or any workaround trick would sell terribly.

I agree Javier. I'm completely new to smartphones, but the inexpensive one I bought has a front facing camera. Although, like the OP, I never have taken a selfie or made a video call, but I don't mind the camera being there in case in the distant future I need or want to do something like that.

D.i.c.k Tracy had a front facing camera, so I need one as well! ;)

Someone definitely needs to make a polycarbonate phone with flagship specs, no front facing camera and bezeless screen for $300-$400. Tons of people would buy it. I don't know why Google has yet to do this. It could have easily been the pixel 3a.

Doubtful that tons of people would buy it, for the reasons already given in this thread. That's why it won't be made.

This post reminds me of back in the day when Blackberry added touch to their devices and people were like, "why even have a touchscreen on a Blackberry?"

yes you are alone with this lol....its alot of reasons ppl use the front facing camera as stated thru the comments....I, myself enjoy the front facing camera for video chats!

Too many people are obsessed with selfies nowadays, I agree. But removing the selfie camera altogether isn’t a good idea. As other users have pointed out, they are used for video calling, mirrors, as well as selfies etc

There’s plenty of designs nowadays that try to maximise screen space and hide the selfie camera, so nobody is forcing you to choose one design. There’s large and small notches, hole-punch, sliders, roasting sliders, dual screen phones and more.

What's frustrating me is all this effort to incorporate a front facing camera when I have never once used a front facing camera. Never used the Iris scanning feature, never used it as a mirror, definitely never used it for selfies. Seems to me that this feature is holding back the evolution of the phone. Couldn't they have a model specifically with or without the front camera? Am I alone on this?
Kid, you and I are the minority.

Selfie camera actually pushes innovation. Companies are trying to cloak it under the screen. Now that's innovation.

having a phone without a front camera is like having a car without a stereo, cruise control and air conditioning. sure, some grumpy old fart would love it.
