Why I am done with the Note series (and the Pixels for that matter)

I understand your point, but I think that you need to think about the processing power contained in today's devices. Just because the Snapdragon chip in the Note9 is 5 months old doesn't make it outdated. Unless you are referring to benchmark performance, the SD845 will be more than capable of holding it's own throughout 2019. I do see what you mean, but the only way to avoid it would be if every flagship phone ALL came out at the beginning of the year. How boring would that be?

You do have a point: if *all* new smartphones came out at the beginning of the calendar year, it would be kind of a damper on the rest of the year. Nothing else *phone-like* to look forward to!

And it would also be madness! How would I be able to decide on a phone with all of the releases happening at once?! I think I'd go out of my mind!

I actually prefer that the S series started getting the latest processors and platform hardware.
There are far more people who will buy a phone without a stylus that with, despite how much
people here (like me) find it useful. So it makes more sense to release the newer platform early in the year.

BUT! Why I like the Note series (and think that makes it better) is it also give Samsung more time to
work out the bugs and performance issues of that new platform from the S Series to make it more refined by
the time the Note is ready for stores. I don't see that as outdated, I see that as optimized.

I use s-pen for clicking on buttons, selecting text (and pasting), as well as typing. Would be somewhat lost without.

7.1 and extra memory seems to be better than the s8+ is/was. Putting out a new phone later avoids early issues normally found with software as well as hardware. 8.0 definitely had a rocky start.

Unlike S-Series, the Note has avoided problems andemic to Galaxy line. Also, a chance to see more timely updates. I would like to see Note 10 ship with Android "P."

Just rumors...but I heard there will be 2-3 S10 versions released. The Note 10 seems to be up in the air. We may have a version released in 2020 Q1 with an S-pen, called something else. Maybe just "Galaxy phone" and Galaxy phone plus or Galaxy phone pen for the old Note line.
This could be the last Note type device for a while.

Everything else that I have read states that this is in no way definite yet. I also believe there will still be a phone with an S-pen, but it may just be a merger of the plus model and the Note with a new name.

They're just merging it with the S series so they can make 3 models of it. During the time of the S3-5, there were three models: S, S mini, then Note. They're just going to turn that to Smini, S, S+ (with S Pen) most likely. But it's still rumor.

There is no "official" announcement from samsung regarding development on the note series beyond the Note 9.
BUT. Samsung owns a large stake in Wacom technology and are among only a few companies that make use of that technology on Smart phones, Tablets and computers. Adding S-Pen funtionality is a lot more than just including the S-Pen with a new device. There have been rumors of Samsung "killing" the Note line since the Note 7, if not before. IMHO, people who say they will just merge the S-Pen into the S Series don't have a clue as to what they are talking about.

Specs mean very, very little for modern flagship phones. 3 years ago, the OP's argument might have had merit. Today though, just about all modern flagships have internals PLENTY fast enough to last until anyone on these forums gets their next phone.

Sigh, some people have to have the latest technology even though they can't tell you exactly what that technology does for them. The one thing that the S9 doesn't have is an SPen. That's much more important to me than having a processor that saves a few milliseconds when I send a text message. I'll be very happy waiting 5 months to save those milliseconds.

TabGuy, I went from the Note 8 to the Galaxy S9 plus because I wanted to try out some of the new features and am on a plan where it didn't cost much to switch. While I do like the phone, I miss that S-Pen sooo much. Its just not something that people who don't regularly use the S-Pen can really understand. I'll be going to the Note 9 as soo as I can, I'm also hoping I can made my old Note 8 case work with the N9 until I can pick up a newer cover.

They already merge......those iPhone X users are buying Samsung screens. Me, well I prefer the freedom of android. Yes, I started with iPhone when the 3 came out, and loved it till the end of the 4. Sammy, indeed all android devices now have + & - when individuals compare to apple but in the end it's personal preference - in many respects android does it better than apple, in some respects apple does it better. That notch now would p*## me off! Don't forget also that the current iPhones will be old school later this year - just like EVERY OTHER current 2018 phone. Rumours - I'm with you - wait till the release day - I can't wait to see what is on offer in note 9, just because I'm interested in all things tech & have a note 8, however I don't expect much more tho and will wait till 2019 in all likelihood for a new phone. It wouldn't worry me if Sammy ditched the note series AS LONG AS THE S10+ or whatever had an inbuilt s-pen...oh, and I much prefer the aesthetics of the curved screen - each to their own.

You're probably right but they could have all that done already and just milking the last of the Note name this year, it would explain why not all that much effort seem to have been put into the Note9, I can see an S10 with a pen, triple camera, dual front camera and 256/512gb 8gb Ram, processor on 7nm technology etc... Simply because the likes of Huawei and few others are already touching those territories

I see a lot of effort being put into the Note 9. The release was already rumored to be delayed because of a last minute decision to change the glass covering the phone. Adding S-Pen capability is more than just making room for a pen slot. It adds at least two layers for additional sensors to the screen and serveral extra steps in the manufactuing process.
I can't see an S10 with a pen because the S Series and Note Series are aimed at different (overlapping but distinct) types of users. Other OEMs are touching on those areas but don't get the big praise (or blame) of putting all those technologies together in a way that appeals to millions of existing users.
