Why is both lte and wifi in my status bar on my s6

Just recently both the LTE and wifi icons are sometims showing up in my status bar when I'm connected to wifi I have download booster off and the wifi network is stable so is this normal or is something wrong

3 possibilities

1 - If it's happening ALL the time, you may either have the setting on in your S6 called "Download Booster"
This can be found under SETTINGS > More Conneciton Settings > Download Booster. This setting allows you to combine your mobile data and wifi for faster downloads. The LTE icon in your menu would have a little download icon below the lighting bolt. I would suggest turning it off unless you have unlimited data on your phone.

2 - Also can happen when going from a Data area into a saved Wifi connection. But that should be very temp. By the sounds of it, it's always happening. So that could mean you have a crappy wifi connection and you have another setting on that is supposed to HELP that but makes it worse in my opinion. It's called "Smart Network Switch" which can be found in SETTINGS > WIFI > MORE > Smart Network Switch, turn that crap OFF if it's on.

If neither of the above are the case and it happens on ANY wifi not just one wifi specifically could be the Wifi in the phone itself
Let me know if any of the above works

It is normal. As long as you see the wifi symbol it is using that as the data source (unless receiving a MMS message which is a picture/video text from people).

I disagree. It is not normal behaviour to have both symbols at all times showing. I am on an S6 and have been on the S4 and S3 before this, and that has never happened before. Unless it's in regards to the S6 and the specifics I posted above.



Note the difference. This is just one example I gave above. Mind you I have not seen a screen shot of the OP's LTE symbol,but if it looks like my screen shot. They very well could have download booster on.
There are many things to look at before this can be considered normal behaviour.

It actually is normal .. depending on carrier of course. International models, T-Mobile, and such won't see it. AT&T won't I don't think as well. Verizon will see it though. Either a white 4G LTE icon (with caller ID app activated) or a grayed out 4G LTE icon.

Take a look at any carrier driven model and you will see both icons available (mainly Verizon) even when Wifi is active. It actually is more common than you think . Comparing to older S4 / S3 models doesn't really matter since they didn't do this .. Anything S6 / S7 / Note 5 and on do.

I have the SM-G920W8 and I am on Telus in Canada. And my phone doesn't do it, except under the circumstances I have listed.
Either way, OP never said what carrier he was on, and also stated "Just recently both the LTE and wifi icons are sometims showing up"

So hard to say normal when we don't know the whole story in this case. Let's see what the OP has to say after reading on this and finding out who they are with and what model they have

Yes the one you have in Canda wouldn't do this. That is why I said this is common for carriers here (in the U.S.) and it is normal (just look at my example.. Many screenshots in that thread where they are on wifi and you still see the Verizon "4G LTE" logo. Either grayed or white). Other countries simply don't have this issue. The U.S. carriers are very well known for making phones do things their counterparts anywhere else don't do .

Agree .. I have both on , but if you look ay it carefully .. only Wifi is working ..
Unless you turn the Mobile data OFF .. then it goes away ..

Glad we finally found out where you were and that this WAS NOT normal behaviour.
What about "Smart Network Switch"? Was that on? And if so did you turn it off?
If that is not on, my guess is a very minimal signal on the routers you are experiencing this on.

I',m on AT&T and have had the S6 since launch. I have always had the Wif and Cell icons in the status bar - assuming of course I am on wifi. This is completely normal.

AT&T does not have download booster.

Smart network switch is off I'm on bell Canada and it's a 64gb s6 when I first got it it didn't do this cause I switched both download booster and smart network switch off so it didn't show and I have a limited data plan and unlimited wifi so if this is using my data it's a big issue for me

Have you tried simply power cycling your modem and router on the main wifi that's having the issue?

Do you have a separate modem and router. or do you also have Bell for internet on one of those POS all in one pieces of crap they provide?
