Why Is GNex Getting Such Bad 4G LTE Speeds Compared to iPhone 5?!?!?!?!

Warranty is only a year, unless you opt for the extended warranty or TEC, which includes the extended warranty and insurance.
OK, that is what I have. So is Asurion's $100 deductible only for accidental damage, loss and theft? Hardware failures are the extended warranty with no deductible?

Is the network extender that you got 4GLTE capable?
No, Verizon doesn't have those. They gave me the network extender due to the dropped calls.

It may be hard to convince them that your GNex is defective unless you can compare side-by-side with another GNex.
They were pretty quick to offer me the Rezound or the Razr about a year ago. I think they know there were problems with the GNex and just want to be rid of them.

I would disagree that Samsung radios suck especially any phone released recently.

The note 2 radio is imo better than the radio on my RAZR maxx. The Maxx is slightly better than my gs3 and Rezound, but not by much. All those phones blow my HTC thunderbolt out of the water in terms of radio.

Talking of peak speeds, I have seen 68mbps on my note 2. On my RAZR maxx, gs3, and Rezound, I have seen around 61mbps max. On my thunderbolt, I never saw over 30 Mbps

The galaxy Nexus I personally don't blame Samsung that much since Google specd out the phone and Google is doing the software. But based on what I neve read, the galaxy Nexus gets sub par radio compared to other phones.

If Samsung cared as much about the GN as it did its own named devices it would have been an absolute monster.

Correct. No deductible for extended warranty portion of TEC.

Ah ok, then the network extender makes no difference in terms of 4GLTE

Wow, that is awesome. So the Samsung radio can handle the speeds.

I need to do some speed tests in areas where the 4G LTE signal is strong. It's not that strong at my home but still, the iPhone 5 can get good speeds.

Yeah the Gnex can I haven't had the horrible radio everybody's talking about. Of course the newer radios gonna produce faster speeds lol.

That's pretty good. Will have to keep that in mind. Although I guess I won't get a chance to try that as I'm on the get-my-own-phone-to-keep-unlimited-data track now.

Outside ran 2 tests side-by-side simultaneously connecting to the same server located in my town.

Download
iPhone 11 and 11.5
GNex 8.5 and 10.5

Upload
iPhone 6 and 7.5
GNex 2 and 2.5

Ping
iPhone 44 and 48
GNex 45 and 42

There is less of a difference between the iPhone and the GNex outdoors than indoors.

Verizon advertises 5-12 down, 2-5 up for 4GLTE. Keep in mind speeds aren't guaranteed.

If you are having issues with connectivity, say the gnex drops service or has no service when the iPhone has service, then that would be something to complain about. Saying that you get 8 on one device, 11 on another doesn't make much difference in real world application, unless you are having an issue with Web pages loading slowly or something

I got my note 2 for $37, but if I wanted the no contract price, start new line of service, then i would just pay etf of $350 and one days service which shouldn't be over $5. Granted, my situation is special, but I know of others who got the note 2 for $50, with etf, so around $405 for a no contract note 2. Compared to $699 full retail. So just wait for a sale on the device that you want. Just be careful, some retailers will charge a secondary $400 etf.

If you have a family plan, you can transfer the upgrade to a non unlimited line, if you have one

Doesn't seem like it. Seems like the GNex is fast when you get a good one and are in an area with a strong signal. I suspect the problem is when you are in an area with a weak signal.

I think you can get the TEC if you bring your phone into verizon right after you buy it. They inspect it and then add the TEC to your line.

Also, there is a thread on the verizon forum of ways to do alternate upgrades if you have a family plan and at least one line without unlimited data that you can transfer upgrades to. You can also add a line to do it.

You can get it within 30 days of purchase

You can also get it during open enrollment which already ended this year, but they probably will open it again next year

Ah, I see. Thanks for the tip. I thought that signing a new 2-yr contract would make your unlimited disappear though? Oh well, maybe I'll revisit this later; I'm still under contract, so I can't do anything right now anyway. And we probably shouldn't go off on a tangent in this thread. Thanks though.

Yeah, I had heard of that trick too, but I'm not on a family plan.

Start a new line of service with a new phone number. Not upgrade your line

Oh yeah, duh, I see. Of course, that makes sense. :) Thanks. Wow, you got quite a deal, snagging the Note II for only $37! (Yes, I saw you said your situation was unique. Still, very nice.)

The only thing is if you are on a 450 minute unlimited text unlimited data individual plan, the minimum number of voice minutes on a family plan is 700 and that costs more as well as the unlimited text now is $30 instead of $20. And then you have the $10 added line fee.

But the good news is that you get 2 upgrades so you can use the first upgrade to get an iPhone and sell it to recoup the cost of the added line then transfer your unlimited line's upgrade to the added line and get the phone you want. It is all detailed on a thread in the verizon form.

There is the 550 minute family plan, that is what I am on. It is a loyalty plan.

Figure out the cost, if it is more than $350,better off starting a new line of service to get the phone then pay $350 etf

Thanks for the additional info and tips/advice, pham00 and androidluvr2! Will keep this in mind and also checkout the verizon forums when the time comes. Thanks!
