Why is it that the TB is the last phone to get every single update!?

Re: Why is it that the TB is the last phone to get every single u

Question for those who have rooted and running GB.

Does it improve battery life? I know uninstalling some bloatware that automatically runs definitely helps too.

Also, once rooted, can you roll back to "stock" once the update comes out ?

Thanks!

My phone with moderate use lasts 12+ hours. And yes you can roll back to stock and update but I won't be doing that. Ill be waiting for the to make some new roms based off the official release.

Verizon has never been speedy with product releases or software updates. They are better than they used to be about updates.

I really don't understand what the extended testing accomplishes since they have let some pretty big bugs slip by on multiple devices despite extended testing.

as much as i hate to say this. i want an update to anything on my phone like "now" but think about the ones who had/have the DINC or the OG droid or so on. if you still had one of those devices and see a "new" phone aka thunderbolt, get the "updates" b4 you, wouldnt you be upset?
have a feeling i will be rooting this weekend. so i can get the updates NOW LOL

Yeah, I hear ya. It occurs to me that perhaps they are not always only looking for bugs. But perhaps sometimes verifying that contractual obligations were met with the whole package, as it is being delivered in the update/fix. And that any changes/enhancements will "mesh" with VZW (i.e. Mobile Hotspot app - post 7 July, Skype front camera and sound works, My VZW app interfaces properly and allows contract manipulation, etc. Even, dare I say, Blockbuster! - There, I said it :) ).

Think you mean Netflix not BB?

Haha... actually I did mean Blockbuster. Obviously, for it to be included there must have been some kind of agreement between the two. But, Netflix is also a good one to check.

Welcome to Android. You'll get used to it.

Re: Why is it that the TB is the last phone to get every single u

I would just like an update that would stop the random reboots. Had one reading the replies. Very annoying.

"Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thunderbolt!! Hoooooooo!!!!!!!"

Re: Why is it that the TB is the last phone to get every single u

I'll take any HTC Android phone over any Samsung Android phone... any day of the week or year.

As someone who lost his Evo and then bought an Epic to replace it. This couldn't be a better comment. Got my EVO 3d today and am sooooooooo happy to be back, even without root.

I think HTC is done with big releases for a while and those ginger updates will be out in a hot minute.

I think that is interesting is that the Verizon reps must be so tired of getting questions and returns on reboot and battery issues that they have basically stopped selling it. The Charge is outselling the Tbolt 10:1 based on the recent survey posted on this site... I love my Tbolt. Update will get here. :p

I COMPLETELY agree!

I have a TBolt, but was at Costco the other day, they were pushing the Charge over the TBOLT, saying the TBOLT has a lot of problems, that everyone is returning them, terrible battery etc....and not to buy it.Wow.

Haha, try having a G2 on Tmo. Supposed to be AOSP Android? I have a G2 for my phone and TBolt for the work phone (Samsung, no thanks) so no root or custom roms. My opinion, it reboots when the screen is off so they can leave a message.

Ewww the Charge is hideous but it has an awesome screen. My step-dad got the charge initially and the battery life and signal was soooo bad. The TBolt really isn't as bad as some people say it is but whatever.

I'm not sure what the big deal is with GB but it doesn't do that much and it seems to be worse on battery which is the LAST thing we need on the tbolt. I'm running a FroYo ROM and with my extended battery I can go days without charging. I've tried a few GB ROMs and the battery life doesn't even come close to when I run FroYo. I'll stick with FroYo until a stable solid GB leak comes out because no way is GB coming this month.

signal and battery life are so bad? on my worst day i still get 2 to 3 more hours than the TB ever did and my signal is just as good if not better sans the random reboots i would get during calls with the TB. i would check his setup because he probably has a poorly coded app installed.

Re: Why is it that the TB is the last phone to get every single u

Well, it's not because it's a ThunderBolt. It's because when a phone is released a big "GAME OVER" feeling is propagated and work begins on newer phones still in development. Gotta get the next one out the door, and the next, and the next. Point is, all these newer phones are being developed at a more recent time than the ThunderBolt therefore they naturally incorporate subtle newer updates as they each reach their GAME OVER status. Then it begins again.

All this time the developers and manufacturers are trying to play "catch up" with the now "legacy" ThunderBolt. If you owned the company, which would be more important to you?

Such is the way of market pressure today.

Better answer: Hang in there, we'll catch up.

GAME OVER

That's a good one -- and SO TRUE.

Here we have a phone (Thunderbolt) that was the hottest think since sliced bread only THREE MONTHS AGO......and NOW it's the Thunderbust, the Thunderdud, the Thunderwho?

By the time the two year contract is over (for those that go that route) the phone is 6 generations behind the times. It hasn't been upgradeable for almost a year, and you can barely use as a phone...maybe text and a date reminder.

By August they will be pushing something else and it will be the Charge that everyone is returning.

The life cycle of a smartphone these days is no better than the common housefly.
